How competive are Ultra Lightweight SBK's in Lightweight SS/SB? Or am I beating my head against the wall in these classes?

I'm currently running a KTM 640 Single (about 60 hp) and was thinking about attending the ASRA/CCS Barber event in August.

It more depends on who you are and how well you can ride. 60 HP you are at a disadvantage on faster tracks. Ultralight SB just are no match for the lightweight stuff but depending on who shows up you could do well.

Gaviria in the Florida Region runs a CRF450 that has been worked I am sure and he is ultra fast at most of the tracks here in Florida and giving the fastest SS SV riders a runs for the money. He runs 1:22-23 at Jennings where the fastest Duc 1000 rider is in the 21's.

With yellow plates  a good rider could probably do OK.  White plates - forget about placing up front.  I guess it depends on your goal, you can't win but that doesn't say you wouldn't have fun.  We have a guy running a SM bike in the expert class in the Mid-West region - I even saw him out there running Thunderbike.  It looked like he was having fun, but it was clear he was not in any position to podium.

I don't know if that directly answers your question though...

your advantage seems to be at stop and go tracks like moroso with 3 bus stops barber is a flowing track that eliminates that but for 50 bucks you can find out plus its more track time .you guys need your own class anyway

hey mark not going to homestead to watch but have a load of batteries to take to port of miami next week  or so .maybe we can hook up marc

Ask Gary Palmer. He runs UL Superbike and ends up second to Ed Key which is running first in lightweight SS.

Yeah, but comparing a SM bike to Gary's ubber built 750SS is kind of an apples to oranges comparison.  Its like comparing Ed's SV Superbike to a stock SV...

So you would like me to be your test mule?
:)

yeah, whatever you run, i'll just knock off 4 seconds per lap and i should be in the ball park............

actually, i think a motard will be fairly competetive at Barber. i have run in LWSB at MAM and came in 4th behind Ed Key, Paul James and Brian Lacey. MAM is more high speed i think, because of the longer front straight.
