I'm in the process of tearing down my 900sp motor and am stuck on removing the transmission gear from the crank.  I've got an older service manual that shows a standard 2-prong gear puller to remove it, but the local shop mentioned a special tool for it now.

Anyone here have any experience with this?

Thanks!

Let your local dealer screw it up.  Don't risk screwing up your cases yourself.  Local dealer did my 1000SS for $15.  Granted, I had everything else off.  Mine was so tight that an impact wrench wouldn't do it, he used a 3 ft cheater on the end of his breaker bar.  Supposedly they get looser every time you remove-  after ten seasons worth of rebuilds you'll remove it with toothpick.

Of course in 10 years a 900cc air cooled motor will be in the super-uber-ultra feather-lightweight classes, for bikes with less than 150 hp.
