A few folks know this and I wanted to take the time to inform the rest and invite anyone and everyone along.
I will be doing a charity ride in June to raise money that will be split between the Wisconsin School For The Deaf and the Red Flag Fund. I will be getting sponsorship from local businesses and individuals and would ask that you attempt to do the same.
The ride will basically entail traveling 1000 miles in 24 fast moving long (painful) hours.
As of now there are a few folks that have expressed interest in riding along. One (maybe a few more) from Kentucky, one from Southern Indiana, and 2 from Wisconsin. Anyone that might be interested in traveling along to EARN an Iron Butt Association certificate is more than welcome to join in the fun. And as well as that, anyone willing to meet us along the way would be more than welcome to tag along for whatever part of the trip is left.
As of now, the destination will be somewhere west of Mount Rushmore (which is 735 miles from here 690 miles all on one fast moving virtually cop free highway)
If you would like to join in or have any questions, please feel free to post up.
The exact date has not yet been set but it will likely be in June.
Once we see who's going, we will agree on a centralized meeting point and I will start looking for a discount with very comfortable hotels and/or bed and breakfasts at our ending location.
We will leave sometime between Thursday night and Friday morning and ride like hell, stopping only to fill our tanks and stomachs and empty our blaters.
When we get there we'll sleep like babies.
The next day or two we will take our sweet time getting back checking out the landmarks and little towns along the way.
We will return sometime Sunday or Monday.
We ride as a group and will stay together through out the full trip there. If something should happen, we would all stop unless the unfortunate sole tells us to go on without them.
If this is an adventure you would like to be apart of, please let me know so we can plan accordingly.
The cut off date will be May 21st. But please do not wait until the last minute.
Thanks,
Court Jester

Have you made any kind of official pledge form? Anything we could take to potential sponsors?  Do you have any elegibility requirements? I have a couple friends that might also be interested.

the form i have on a flash drive at work. it could use a little rewording and what-not. but it'll be done pretty soon.
requirement??? a bike??? a desire to ride a really long way for little to no reason on little to no sleep??? works for me.
just to make sure some money is raised for sure i was planning on $35 per person which would help cover the cost of the t-shirts and such. but i should have right at $1000 that will go into it at the moment. give or take a wee bit. but more is better.
but that's really it. 35 bucks, a bike, and just be willing to ride the distance.
if you are serious, shoot me a pm and i'll put a rush on getting the stuff finished up and sent out to you.
thanks a lot.

I'm guessing that this requirement should rule out any participation by Harley riders?  Would it count if they sat on the bike while it was on a trailer for 1000 miles?

First of all... what in god's name are you doing with a harley???
harley's will do 100 wont they???
i'm not too fond of them but if you want to bring it then come along. either way it'll help the two causes. if you are riding with the group though, a helmet is required and a leather jacket as a min. i'm sure you wouldn't mind, but i know not a lot of harley riders are fond of those two things. as of now, there will be one other guy on a metric cruiser.

You wouldn't ever find me on a Harley.  Maybe a Buell (Like my friends Paul, Mark and Dave M.)

Actually I ride a BMW R1100S Boxer Cup Replika.

Maybe you've seen it around the Tech Shed at MW races - Blue and White -gaudy thing for a BMW.

I have no concerns about the reliability or speed of my bike. As long as I keep tires on it.:thumb:

This was simply a dig at Harley's being able to do 1000 miles in 24 hrs and the fact that most Harleys I see headed to Sturgis are on trailers!

Keep us informed on the date - if it fits my schedule I might be up for it!! :thumb:

there had been a few requests on dates but as of now it's looking like meeting in central illinois thursday night and heading out EARLY friday morning June 15th. should be able to make it in about 15 hours or less. take our time from there getting back hitting devil's head tour, mount rushmore and all that cool stuff we might not be able to see otherwise. but we should be back on monday june 18th.

also, i'm not hearing back from the wisconsin school for the deaf on where they could put the funds to use. if i don't hear back from them this week then i will look into putting the 50% of the funds to another org.
So post up the causes that you feel the 50% could be put to good use.
I would like it to be within the state of wisconsin and something that would help children. any ideas would be helpful.
thanks,
mike

Well, the airfence fund was my first vote, but aside from that, Children's Hospital can always make use of donated money.
