ESU vs. ECU ???

I just received my latest CCS mailer and I am trying to seek an understanding.  On the front page it reads;

"Clarification of alternate ECU mounting in section 5.4.2 to read 'as close to perpendicular to the rear axle as possible. In all classes it is illegal to mount the ECU forward of the rider on the machine'"

Is this suppose to refer to the Electronic Scoring Unit (ESU) or the ECU (Black brain box)?  I can understand a typo if this is the case, but there are alot of machines that have a full race wiring harness that place the Black Box in the nose of the motorcycle (typical of Ducati).

Then on the other hand, if this new rule is indeed intended to limit the location of the Black Box, why does it matter (besides weight)?

Seeking clarification?

Vic, it's the scoring transmitter.

The AMA, and I think WERA, use a different model, and they are usually mounted on the fork tube out of the way and in a relatively consistent location.

Thanks for the clarification Super Dave!  I just know how rules are written and then how they are enforced!  I just wanted to make sure there was not going to be any surprises and that we are all talking about the same thing.

+1  That makes more sense now.   I read that and was already thinking about what's involved  in re-wiring the Duc for this rule.. Glad that's not necessary. =)

It was a typo the rule is for the Electronic Scoring Unit
