My Local Paper, The Moline Dispatch/Rock Island Argus, finally had a paragraph and a picture on thursday about Nicky's Championship.

Well that's good that they even bothered to write it up.  I am a little peeved that the NYTimes has still not made any mention of it at all (as I mentioned in a recent thread on this same topic).  They did run two articles, tho, when Hayden won out here at Laguna, so that was good.

My guess is that it all comes down to numbers.  Try this:  which involves a greater number of people - a single marathon in a top 10 city in the US; or all the people who participate in roadracing in a given year in the US?  I think the last time I tried to estimate the latter I came up with around 5000 people.  I could be wrong, so double it. Let's say it's 10,000.  You know how many run in a decent sized marathon??  20,000++.  Multiply that times a bunch to come up with how many people are interested in marathons and running etc.

You can do the same thing with pretty much any sport you have ever seen an article about - horseracing, drag racing, skateboarding, lacrosse, etc.  No matter how seemingly obscure it might first seem, it's a safe bet there are still more people participating and/or watching it than there are for roadracing.

Which is too bad, because in my opinion, roadracing is the pinnacle of motorsports; and among the great sports in the world.  Unfortunately, unless you actually do it, it is very difficult to understand why anyone would think that.

Dave Kallmann of the Milwaukee Journal Sentinel gave Nicky a small paragraph. Better than nothing...

The Washington Post printed the Reuters article by Simon Baskett.

K3 Chris Onwiler

The frame was snapped, the #3 rod was dangling from a hole in the cases, and what was left had been consumed by fire.  I said, "Hey, we've got all night!"
