Trying to gather some info about VIR, I am heading there this weekend for the ASRA events and have never been before.  Just trying to get some insight before I head out so I can hopefully be prepared.

What type of track is it as far as tire compounds?  And is it mostly left handed turns or right handed turns?

What is a good starting point for gearing on a 2004 Kawasaki ZX6R at VIR

Thanks

I've only been there once, but the track isn't too abrasive although the last corner will really wear the right side of your tire.  Lots of elevation changes and flowing corners.  The kink on the front straight is flat out and the track as a whole is pretty fast.  The paddock is huge and entirely paved, the showers are excellent as well.  The concession stand is big bucks so bring your own food.  I didn't camp the time I went, but there's supposedly a camping ground somewhere... not sure if you can set up in the paddock or not.  The facility is world class and the scenery is beautiful... bring a camera.

Check out VIR's web link. The campground is located near the showers. That would be a left turn when you enter the paddock and go up the hill by the big red building. Camping area is on the left side. My wife and I enjoy the peace and quit in the evening its real nice. RV's are set up in the padock area. There is no charge for camping as far as I know.  I'm sure you will enjoy the weeekend at VIR all the staff there are very helpfull. Just watch out for the po po on the way in as radar detectors are illegal in VA and they like to hide a lot!.
The track offers elevation changes that are really cool. Turn 4 and five can give problems to newbies that haven't been there before. Turn 14 has a hard brake point and passing opp. before you head downhill to 17 and then finish. I have worked all the turns there before at one time or another. I'm sure others will offer the on the bike observations. I'm sure you will enjoy all it has to offer. See you out there! :thumb:

Sorry to misinform about the camping fee. There is exception given to CCS Staff and Cornerworkers. Too bad it is not passed on to the racers as well. $25.00/ person still beats 40+ at area hotels. See yall there.
