Highway Patrol says biker clocked at 176 mph

Associated Press

BISMARCK, N.D. - A motorcycle rider clocked at 176 mph east of here was charged with speeding and reckless driving, the state Highway Patrol says.

Capt. Mark Bethke said Vitaliy Poberezchnik, 19, of Lincoln, was on Interstate 94, in a 75 mph zone, when he was clocked at 176 mph Friday.

"I can't recall in my years with the Highway Patrol, that we've ever had a speed that's ever been that high," Bethke said.

He said Poberezchnik turned his motorcycle back toward Bismarck, and a trooper was waiting for him.

Poberezchnik was given a $505 ticket for speeding, and he has 14 days to pay the fine, Bethke said. He is slated to appear in court June 6 on the reckless driving charge.

Poberezchnik could not be reached for comment.

I know what 180 MPH feels like at Daytona... I can't imagine doing that on the street  :o

I topped out my ZX11 on a public road once.  The road was in downstate Illinois, and was built along the top of a flood control levee, with farm fields on either side.  I could see ahead for more than a mile, and there were no crossroads.  It still scared the hell outta me.
Later, I road the same bike at Keith Code school, held at Road America.  No fear of speed in THAT controlled environment.  Go figure....
The frame was snapped, the #3 rod was dangling from a hole in the cases, and what was left had been consumed by fire.  I said, "Hey, we've got all night!"

In Ft. Myers we had a guy on Interstate 75 get clocked at 183 mph :banghead:, and the police didn't even bother to chase him.

Our sherrif told my brothers class this, because a kid asked what the fastest speed recorded was. he deserves this :kicknuts: :kicknuts:

Can I play too?  In 1970 I topped out my CL160 at 71.     :ass:

Hey Ralph, LJ called, he wants his bike back.

Yeah?  Well.... Well....  Uh.... Herman Gerbles called, and he wants his sidecar puller back!  And the Red Baron wants his leathers!

LJ wouldn't call, he'd just send someone over to "persuade" Ralph to give it back.
