Anyone know how or why Dennis Crowley crashed at VIR, and how is he doing now?

I talked to Dennis about 2 months ago and he is doing good.  He's back to work and joking (he's always been a joker) about his arm...or lack of it.  I'm sure he will show up at some of the Summit Pt rounds.

When I was talking to him, he was trying to figure out a way to ride (not race) again......my guess is if there is a way, he'll be back on a bike.

Oh yeah....he has no idea on how or why he crashed.

From what I remember he was bumped off the track or cut off, then proceeded to hit the armco that lines that series of corners that precedes the bridge straight (T5&6?)

If you do a search on this board with his name I'm sure you will find the original thread.

I hope he is recovering fine. It scares me to think something like this could happen. I will be donating to his fund. Hope he is back on a bike ASAP!

Last time he was on the boards he was joking & in good spirits. I've never met him personally, but he seems like a hell of a guy 8)

Wait, wait!!  I'm here!  Is the tab still open?  (sorry.. knee-jerk reaction....)

To answer the questions:

-Crash was VIR turn 6a.  I t-boned into the armco wall, which is something like getting shot out of a cannon into a cheese grater.  My right arm was severed on the spot.
-  There was 1 other amateur rider involved, who has not bothered coming forward, to my knowledge.
- I hope to be riding again by spring, thanx to Speedwerks (Dover, DE) and M&J Cycles in West Virginia.  I don't reckon on racing again.
- I'm recovering as fine as can be expected.  Just don't ask me to reach much above eye level (no can do- both arms & shoulders pulverized) or bend over too quickly (back is iffy- couple of cracked vertebrae plus some old stuff).

Please accept my thanks, but if you feel  compelled to donate there's a lot of kids at St. Jude Children's Hospital that need it more than me.

Bluedogz- glad your gettin around.
Just a thought, I have a friend that has a son that born without a right arm, he contacted Mert Lawell, the retired racer, and he is very involved with prosthetic arms. My friends son is this year running the AMA flattrack series in Illinois.
Call him up, maybe he can set you up.

Did that- Mert is a very helpful guy but if you look at his device it seems awfully difficult to use.  Especially if you have no elbow.
