Super Dave

Nick...post questions.

If no one replies, well, they don't have the answers.  Jeff, if you don't want to reply with help, STFU.   ;D

Money...

Nick, the gig you're getting money on the spot was that indoor series?

Several real different things there.

First, look at the size of the facility.  How much does each cost to rent?  Blackhawk had to drop $200k in legal fees to make sure that they could continue making noise at the track.  $500k for repaving.  IDRN and IEPA crawled up their butt, and now they are a licensed "used tire depot" and they have to maintain an inventory count that will be checked.  Additionally, those 18,000 tires have to be bagged because of the "West Nile" hazzard.

Second, spectators.

I raced indoor races years ago and there were always good turn outs for those...even in Salina, KS.

I think it blows that there is no pay out.  Yeah, it doesn't cost much, but the motivation for some pay back has often resulted in really great racing, which brings in spectators, which creates revenue for the track or the organization.  Additionally, that can create a better audience base for your program and it's sponsors.

If you don't have those things in place, hey, we could just do track days.

Yes it is indoor in the winter. Stevenaceracing.com

I am not a fast enough flat track racer to podium against all the kids (and they ain't all boys) but I do know they pay cash for podium finishes in a lot of Steves events.

And thats the thing Dave, you hit it rite on the head, the money won in a Pot race is!

MOTIVATION! GRATIFICATION! COMPENSATING!

It helps out a lot for guys that live track weekend to track weekend money wise. Helps with entering more races, buying parts, gate fees, tires, racing! FOOD!

It's cool that the GT races are cheaper now, but will the competition be the same now that there isn't that money to race for?

SUCKS! Racing for the cash is cool! We need that back!

Jeff

If racing for cash is cool, I typically pit right by pit out.  Drop off $35 with me, and anyone else who wants to participate can do the same, and then come back to collect based on your finish.

If it economically made sense to do, CCS would be doing it.  The points that Dave makes are not entirely true in reality.  If they were, ASRA would be a goldmine and rival the AMA (which still really lacks in attendance from an audience side).

Watch the GT races.  The competition will be far better for the simple fact that people did not race them because they were an extra $35.

It's not a big deal to pay an extra 35 bucks if you know you can win or podium and get that and more money back  ::)

The guys that didn't want to pay the extra 35 bucks obviously didn't think they could podium, otherwhise they would have paid the extra money.

Whats with all the cockeyness around here lately

jer271

Obviously my repley was sensord but Jeff why are you so hard on people lately Ive been lurking around for a couple of months now and it seems when someone has a ligitmite question on racing between you and some others, I wont say any names, some people are all over there a$$ about it this last time I checked is a motorcycle racing board isnt it for Q&A?????? If some of you are..... Never mind Ill just leave it alone.

Jeff

Nah. sorry Jeremy.  It's all in fun.  I'll tone my responses down.  They're not done with negative intent, but I can see that they are coming across that way.

Grasshopper, you are correct on the "pay it if you know you can win it".  My point is that this narrows the field a lot.  And which would you rather have, a race with 5 people all fighting hard for a purse, or a race with 20 people all fighting hard for a hunk of wood?

Jeff

And truth be told Jeremy, I've come off like a baker here lately because I've been in an ill frame of mind and it's easy to rip on someone here than lash out in my personal life.

I'll be nice...   :-*

The only purse races at club level events should be sponsored classes where the purse is paid by the class sponsor. It is really not good for the growth of the sport to have racers paying other racers.

Advice I was given and have given to others. Do not expect/count on any purse money to pay for amateur racing. You should budget for and expect to pay for everything out of pocket. Doing so will not get you into financial hardship. If you overspend then your season ends early.

FUSA didn't pay squat recently.  ASRA will have a similar feature.

When VoiceEclipse put up money for some races, the racing was outstanding.  I pushed and worked harder, and I know the guys I was racing against did the same.

Wood...I'm sorry, keep it.

GT races for $35...that's just an extra practice session now.  Maybe CCS will add five more classes during the weekend and eliminate a round of practice where one would feel it was necessary to enter a GT class for practice.

CCS's origin was in paying purses to Experts.  In a previous era of AMA racing, the guys that were racing for the top positions were all guys that followed club racing contingency events...money.  Fighting to get that extra cash can light a fire under some.  There were some world champions developed under that system.  Polen, Russell, Schwantz.  Others too that weren't world champions, but certainly, you would recognize them.

Jeff

Don't ask me...  I'm just happy to race.
