I have ridden track days spiradacly and had 1 race last season. i raced on power street tires and managed a 6th place finish starting in last (29th} in a 9 lap race. I had 1 track day and 1 morning warm up session on the tires and by the 6th lap the rear tire felt really greasy. How often are you guys changing tires? I'd love to race a full season but don't know if i'll be able to afford the tires, bike maintainence and entry fees.

How fast are you going?

It's as simple as that, really.  Best part of the tire is good for 9 or 12 laps.  And it goes down from there.

At what point is it dangerous?  That depends upon how you ride and how good you are at setting up your bike to give you proper feed back to understand and know how good your traction is.

What bike you're riding will make a difference.  A 125 GP bike will not wear a tire like a 1000cc production bike.

You can't make any contingency money at a track day.

All depends upon what you're looking for.

A rear will usually wear quite a bit more than a front.  Some do two rears to one front.  I think I go three rears to a front.  But, for an important race, I'll replace the front before I think worn to where I won't use it.

Track surfaces can be different too.

What are you riding, and where are you riding?

i ride an '04 yamaha r6 and go better than average for an amatuer class guy i think. I usually ride at moroso because it's close for me but i want to race daytons this year also. I think I'm going to use some power races on both ends. the rear tire i have now has shiny purplish discoloration on the edges. thanks for your feedback!
