Well, I got a dream job, or close enough to it for me!

Starting in a week, I'll be working at Kohler (yes the toilet manuf) in their Small Engine division. I will be an Engine Technician. Basically, Engineers will order a test. The tech mounts an engine to an engine dyno, runs the test, and then plots the data and writes a report on the results. Data and report goes back to engineer. If the engine blows up, Tech does a tear down to find broken pieces. Also much work  in finding carb settings that meet emissions, and some endurance testing. Also will occasionally travel a bit (optional) to perform changes/swaps mid-production on engines already at customer's warehouse. (Like changing out a defective part for a better design, etc)

Work will be on current and prototype engines.

I'm very excited to again have a job that I will really enjoy, and where I get to learn some new skills while honing current ones. Always something a bit different, too. New emissions regs, some work in FI, some fabrication for mods and sensor mounts, etc.

Getting this job was tough, and a godsend. Frees me from manual labor, and a 40% pay increase! Will help pay off the rest of my debt and for my upcoming wedding. Also will allow me to go back to school in a year while still holding a decent job.

Just thought I'd share a bit. Anyone else one of Kohler's 28,000 employees? Which division, what do you do?

Kinda looking forward to the 50 minute commute, at least riding it everyday when I get the FZR road worthy.

Gratz on the New Job.

Though, I find it funny...
I make the same commute... Just going the opposite way.

The frame was snapped, the #3 rod was dangling from a hole in the cases, and what was left had been consumed by fire.  I said, "Hey, we've got all night!"

Congrats Nate,

Having a job that you don't dread going to on a daily basis can carry you a long way.

Sweet!  Kohler can make some neat stuff.  They have a "liquid cooled" small engine...uses oil like an older Suzuki for the coolant.  And they've used Nikasil plated cylinders too.  I think that Millenium Technologies might have done that for them.

Pay increase good... ;D

Congrats. I've got an hour each way and it gets old fast not to mention the cost of putting nearly 100 miles on each day. That's about $12.50 a day (~$250/month), just in gas. I miss my old commute, up the stairs to my  home office.  :'(

So can we sneak our bikes in there for some dyno tuning?  ;D

I heard about those guys,,,they use toilet seats for office chairs, right?  ;)

Hey Nate! Last time I talked to Jen she mentioned the new position...congrats! Kohler is an awesome company to work for. Hopefully you'll make enough money to take Jen over to the Wisconsin Room or the Immigrant across the street at the American Club. Woodlake Market has a great grocery store, the food is pretty good in the deli and bakery. Hope we'll see you both at the track this year!

Do or do not, there is no "try".

Thanx all!

Jack, fortunately, I have a Hyundai Accent which will get about 33 MPG, so I'll be paying about $7.30 a day in gas. Not too bad.

Xian, do you live in Sheboygan, or nearby?

Spyder: I'm hoping to check out Woodlake Market with Jen relatively soon. We'll definitely be at the track. Another year, and then I'll probably be looking at a 125 for both Jen and I to do track days on.

33??? Heck, my motorcycles don't even get that good of gas mileage. :)
