We're trying to mix it up at every race so it's not always the same stuff. So far this year we've done trophies 1 time, plaques one time, oval ceramic's two times, etched glasses one time and the champaign and wine one time. We have something new this month that we've never done.

I got 5th at a NATIONAL for Mountaincross racing (bmx on mountainbikes). My number plate was a index card, a reused index card no less, and my 'trophy' was a Good Job and pat on the back. This was after paying 70$ to enter and I got about 10 minutes on course after practice AND races.

That being said.. I LOVE THE PLAQUES. Woooo hooo. Starting quite the collection, sure it will die off soon enough :-x

At LRRS we do get snazzy trophies for the September Fall Classic (mc statue) and June Loudon Classic (beer mug).  See pic.

There are purse races for that....and how many people would be happy with $10-$20 instead of a trophy? (or less as the prices of small plaques are less)

I can understand there are some, (myself included, I actually recycled the wood from some of my old CCS plaques last year into new trophies for the club) but I think the majority would be unhappy with the amount that could be given in place of trophies, IMHO.
