I am thinking of racing a few CCS pacific region races this year(Buttonwillow and Thunderhill) and have a few questions regarding the weekend format for races. I am currently an AFM racer and would race AM Hv Superbike, AM Hv GP, and Poss GTO and others if possible.

1. Are there any practice sessions during the weekends? If so how are they formatted? Or is the only practice on Fridays?

2. It seems that the AM and EX race in seperate waves is this correct or are they seperate races?

3. How many laps are the races?

4. Are GT races longer?

5. Class wise I have a highly modified GSXR 750, what classes would I be eligible for other than listed above to race in a weekend?

6. How is the typical race weekend formatted as far as the race weekend?

Thanks in advance for any help to these questions.

Some answers to your questions.

1)Practice on Saturday morning 8 am untill aproximately 11 AM. They will usually run 3 groups(4 if the sidecars are running). Expert 600's and above(+250 GP bikes), Amateurs 600's and above(+250 GP bikes), Sportsman and singles, then rider school practice. They will then repeat. Each one gets a 15 minute session. Normally there is a Friday LP trackday-practice but I have been less than impressed with the results although it is usually very cheap($75 if you are preregistered). They run 3 or 4 sessions.

2)Usually they send them in seperate waves. If the grids are big enough, they will run seperate races(usually middleweight supersport and superbike). Unlimited GP's are always(that I've seen) seperate races. I have seen a single wave start once(my last race of my season at Thunderhill, middleweight supersport, I'm sitting there with my hand up and everyone takes off. The only race all season that I ran in that the Am and Ex ran together that they didn't run seperate waves).

3)Depending on the length of the track. At Thunderhill the sprints are 6 laps and the GT races are 30 minutes(unless there is a race ending crash)

4)see 3 above.

5)Satudays you will be able to race GTO and Formula 40 if you are old enough(no slicks in F40 though??? Who knows why). Sunday Unlimited GP(money race), Heavyweight Superbike. If your bike can meet Superstock rules you have the option of racing  Heavyweight Superstock and Unlimited Superstock on Sunday also.

6)There is no standard format for race weekends other that the GT's, Formula 40 and Sportsman races are usually on Saturday, the rest of the Sprints on Sunday.

I have the last Thunderhill race schedule saved on PDF. If you would like to take a look at it, email me and I will email it back to you. My email address is 1999gap@excite.com
