I was there when he died.  Catfish aka Dave Shugrue was my racing teammate and close friend.  He died on the road in front of me on Wednesday night.  Single moto accident.  We think he hit a reflector pole or the tumble through a small ditch, either could have caused the trauma that resulted in his death 20 minutes later.  He was wearing helmet, gloves, leather coat, jeans and Sidi boots.  Zero chance of alcohol or substances involved. I was with him for the 5 hours prior to the accident.  He machine was tight, I doubt it was a mechanical either.  He had ridden the stretch of road he died on probably a thousand times beforehand that is no exaggeration.

I loved Dave like a brother.  He was the reason I ever got my license and went racing this year.  I will be dedicating my 2006 CCS season to his memory. :hello:  I am #722.

I am glad that you guys in here were able to taste a little bit of what Dave was all about.  Highly knowledgeable, very skilled, incredible rider, sweetheart of a guy that made everyone feel good.  One of the funniest mofos I have ever known too.

In loving memory of Dave Shugrue aka Catfish CCS #723.

He was the one that got me to go racing in the first place.  He kept saying in like February this year, "I'm freakin goin man...are you in or what?  We will be good and can have a blast, let's do it."

He was a phenomenal individual that had tons of friends that loved him.  I miss him so much.  Thanks for the nice words and thoughts.

Hello guys, I am sorry to bring up such a topic, however this recently came to my attention and I was wondering if those who knew Dave know if he was originally from Massachussetts and also lived in Port Charlotte, FL for a while?  I was good friends with a Dave Shugrue for a few years when I lived in FL and he moved to Wisconsin from there.  Myself and another friend have said for years we miss having him around and wanted to get in touch with him.  I knew him back when he lost his finger in a crash in FL if this is the same Dave Shugrue.  Once again, my condolences- but I do have to know for my own sanity also.  Thank you in advance.

Joe, he was a regular on http://www.madisonsportbikes.com . Samps on MSB probably would be your best bet to find out.

Thank you for the reply, I found a link to the thread about it there, but it didn;t take me anywhere.  I read about him and samps being close friends, I just didn't want to start a new thread about it.  I feel bad enough stirring up an old one after this long.
