QuoteYour missing my point...

These people used 100+ foot extension cords to "relocate" their generators 100+ feet away from where they were pitted...

Had nothing to do with space, and everything thing to do with "I am a tight wad, so I purchased a loud sh1tty generator, and don't want to listen to it"

FWIW, I only turned the generator off after I asked them to kindly move it into "their area" and when they did not comply is when I turned it off...

Then they moved it...  ::)

sorry , thought from your post it just "got to the point where you turned it off"...  if you talked to them first then they need a smackin in the head.  Its not uncommon for people to move their generators to the opposite side of their trailer/truck.  My point was simply, (at first) they maybe didnt realize it was a problem, this has happened to me before, typically when someone shows up sunday and pits near us.

Not trying to debate this, just makin a statement... If the decision is to either A.  Buy a generator I can afford.  Or B.  Not have one at all...  does it make me a tightwad?  Or less financially sound to buy the nice genny?  Just keepin it friendly!!  ;)  Those quiet ones are not cheap and most racers are more... lets just say... thrifty!!

As for not wanting to listen to it... thats where I agree with you.  You bought it, you should bear the brunt of your purchase!

QuoteI'd like to see it across the board.

If someone is partying loudly, I have no issue asking them to tone it down.  Banging on a bike is fairly rare as opposed to the increasing number of loud generators.

I'm not trying to be a Nazi here, just looking for some consideration.  Since there are an increasing number of people who don't seem to care so long as they are comfortable, I think the issue should be addressed.

It's a common courtesy thing that some people are refusing to acknowledge.  Kinda like leaving your VP containers and old tires next to the garbage can...

I agree 100% with you Jeff.  Not trying to argue (sorry if its coming across that way).

The consideration factor is going out the door every where you look.

Placement was inconsiderate of them, but buying a loud generator does not make one a tightwad.

I don't know how much you make a year (nor do I care), but ~1K for a generator is about 1/3 of my annual racing budget.  So no, I don't consider myself a "tightwad" for buying a "medium loud" generator.

Jeff

And for the record, I really have nothing against loud generators powering tire warmers or fans during the day.  It's just the sleeping hours (which we all seem to be in agreement with).

I saw someone wrap the generator with some foam, it seemed to really muffle the sound.  I think I may try that at gingerman !

I can vouch for extractor, there were atleast 4 NOISY generators right behind his trailer... If I dropped 1800 on nice quiet Honda generators I would be kinda pissed too !

For the record I have a Home Depot sepcial !!! Coleman 6500 baby !!!  Its not near as loud as some of those others though... !!!

I may have my exhaust welder friend fit a old Hindle exhaust on my generator...  :D

I actually found a place that sells mufflers and exhausts for LOUD Genny's. I am thinking that I am going to order it and see how it works. I report back on this thread.

Funny thing is the manufacturerer is SuperTrapp.

Quiet generators have a lot more than "better mufflers".

Ear plugs...I'll repeat that one too.

Aren't we talking about a race track?  If it's too loud, hey, maybe a different sport like golf or croquette is better suited to some's taste.

Racing sometimes is about doing in the face of circumstances that aren't really like those of others.  If you've got problems with the enviornment is AT the track...maybe a KOA or a hotel are better places to be.

Is this like non smokers trying to get all the bars in an area to be non smoking?  But then when they get those laws past, the non smokers don't go to the bars that had the smokers anyway...

Yeah, I know, it isn't the same kind of analogy, but...

We are talking about a race track at night. There is no excuse for being loud at night just because you are at a race track. Tracks already have problems with neighbors due to noise, excessive noise at night could get a race track closed.

Ear plugs at night are not the best solution. I don't like them while trying to sleep. I can hear my heart beat and blood flowing through my ears. I find it very irritating.

People should learn to be considerate of others.
