Looking at several other orgs cancelling and talking with alot of racers at VIR last weekend I was wondering if CCS has decided to cancel the race weekends there??
At this point I can find no one who wants to run it, and after seeing the track myself it does'nt look very fun. Any word ???

We dont want to run it,  if its unsafe. I spoke with a few people @ summit last visit...last I heard, none of the requested saftey updates (CCS) have been completed. Who knows ???

I don't want to race at that concrete jungle either. This is just my opinion, but they should of spent the money on updateing the main course, like a fresh overlay of blacktop. That giant slab of tar sucks in the rain.

I know I won't be there. Concrete jungle about sums it up. I know they do that kinda racing overseas (IOM, Irish200, China, etc.) but most of those guys I think have a death wish and don't have to go to work on Monday.

Just took a look for my self. They should have built a helecopter pad in the middle . There is no run off any where . More walls than Loudon,and the smallest paddock I've ever seen. Biggest waste of asphalt . What were they thinking? ???

The MARRC Executive Committee announces that the Track Day scheduled for Friday, July 8, 2005 on the Shenandoah Circuit at Summit Point Raceway has been CANCELED.

so the people that provide the SAFETY CREW for all Summit Point events thinks it's not safe to run on at this time...

At the riders meeting @ summit point this weekend the subject was brought up...I was unable to hear everything, but I belive CCS still does not know for sure. (someone noted if everyone does not sign up to race, then CCS will not run it in the schedule next year) Sounds good to me!

I think it would be like last year...summit was booked. I say make it 5 total races at Summit main next season ;) since its my home track ;D ;D

I rode shenandoah with TPM last monday. We rode the track the opposite way. Most people saw a video posted on here. we ran the track the other way. It was a bit safer so to speak. The track is very technical. Walls are close. Little if no run off at all. Some spots the walls are very close but the speed you are traveling is quite slow. Either way racing on that track would be a disaster. Would people get hurt ... i dont know maby probably. There would be a tremendous ammount of down time. You can run trackdays on that course but with limited ammount of people and some self control... but thats asking a whole lot of riders.

according to the schedule @ http://www.summitpoint-raceway.com/ Porsche Club of America is on Summit Main Aug 26-28 - so for that weekend it's Shenandoah or nothing - and it also looks like the same for the Oct event....SCCA is on the Main

I believe the MARRC cancellation is due to the fact the track has not had the chicanes installed that we, and every other motorcycle test, asked for. It would be useless for them to run the "practice" on a track that would not be the same in August. Ask them to make certain what they were thinking.

There is no track that is perfectly safe. We are working with Bill Scott to make this track usable, and as some of you have said, it is up to you whether you ride there or not, and I will respect that decision because ultimately you must accept the risk.

One of you stated that the speed was much lower than the rest of you imagine, that is true. From the three tests we saw, with the chicanes added, most of the trouble areas are reduced or removed from the "most dangerous" list. Average cornering will be in first and second gear, top speed on any straight will be 135 or so, and at the end of those straights there is 70-100 feet of runoff.

As soon as the chicanes are in place, we will ask for another test and evaluate the situation from there.
