Stumpy entered and won his first road cycling race!  It was called a 25 mile race, but it was really about 34 miles.  He lead the whole thing despite being in the lead pack of 14  (if you guys know about about cycling, leading is no good--think of the draft).  So he had to outsprint the 14 other guys who sat in his draft the whole time to the finish line.  Manpower, rather than horsepower!!!    Anyway, it was pretty cool and very unexpected.

The newspaper article is at http://miningjournal.net/sports/story/0626202005_spt02-s0626.asp.

He's always making me proud, I tell ya.

Good job Stumpy!  Always a winning kinda guy...  Me?  I'm too lazy to pedal.  (unless it's in my air conditioned living room in front of the big screen)

His real trick bike is his mountain bike...

He was in the criterium road race downtown Friday night on this mountain bike (probably on his way to a win in that, too) and popped a tire.  He rides some pretty rough trails so it was pretty silly that he popped it on a road course.   >:(  Before the pop some old guy yelled at him for too much elbow banging.  That was kind of funny!

Ummmm, I don't remember any cookies, believe it or not.  His secret to eating before hand--Hormel Turkey chili with cheddar cheese and Fritos on top.  I had to look away while I made this for him at 7:30 am Saturday.  His sugar never drops when he eats this, so you hate to change things up!

(PS - SuperDave, who said there weren't any knees down?   ;D )

Congrats on the win!! It was probably a little cooler up there. Good idea to stay cool this last weekend... ;)

Actually, that's a trend now, knee down M/C roadrace style. I had a triathlete ask me some questions about it 2 years ago. Stitching velcro to skin is gonna be a b1tch.  :o ;D
