Saturday morning on ESPN's Sportscenter they had the top 10 highest paid athlete's.  Tied for 9th with Lance Armstrong was Rossi at $28 million.

Stewart Scott:

"You probably recognize all the names on this list, except for maybe one, Valentino Rossi.  If you don't know who he is, Rossi is an Italian Motocrosser."

Dumb Dumbs.

I would be willing to bet that Lance knows who he is, though.

LOL!

It might be poor translation too...

MotoGP...  I thought changing the name would eventually be confusing to some that are not in the know...

Yeah, if Rossi was giving the information!!

ESPN sucks.... Speed Vision sucks, the people they have hosting these show have NO interests in M/C racing.

Moto-X, Road Racing, Dirt Track etc. It's all the same to those clowns. They have no idea (really thing about that phrase), they are all prompted and make these mistakes without batting an eye.

Just can't wait to see what happens when one of the BIGGEST motorsport events hits the USA in JULY, we'll see who crawls out of the woodwork for that one. I'm sure more experts! ??? (like Gerldo or something)

I'd really like to see someone who has experienced the sport first hand and has the Championship titles to back it up. God knows we have enough of them here in the USA. ;D

Someone needs to have Pridmore and Rapp's team boss go sort those ESPN guys out.  Bet they'd listen to His Airness...   ;)

"The Italian motorcyclist has won four straight MotoGP World Championships, the equivalent of NASCAR's Nextel Cup Series championship."

The quote above is from the ESPN list.  I'd have to say an AMA SB title might be the equivalent to a Nextel Cup.  MotoGP is more equivalent to an F1 title.  They probably thought they had to present it that way because most Americans don't have a clue about F1 or MotoGP.

It is really sad...  When I went in to have my sprained ankle checked out from a track day at Road America and I told them I was racing motorcycles everyone thought I was doing motocross...  I couldn't even tell them it was road racing cause then they are like "oh is that like NASCAR?"  I just want to hit these people...

I went to the 500cc Grand Prix Road Racing Championship event at Laguna in 1988.  I think NBC or CBS delayed it for a week for TV.

Was that a bigger event?  Well, there were three American's at the front that year, Lawson, Rainey, and Schwantz.  Might have more attraction to Americans.  Rossi might actually win this one.  Will be interesting to see.

As for experts on camera doing comentary...some of them have been fired, and they are no better than the non intiated ones, necessarily.

I totally disagree....

Nextel Cup at least has probably ten to fifteen guys that might win each individual race.

AMA Superbike...you've probably got two or three guys that one might bank on for the win.

MotoGP...again, one might bank on three, maybe five guys, and any point in the season that could win.

F1...is it so far away from reality anymore?  To me, it's interesting, technically, but otherwise kind of boring.  That's my opinion.

Aaron, as for people not knowing what motorcycle road racing is...don't worry.

It will probably always be like that.  But you're not trying to sell yourself to the non initiated.

Using the term Superbike would probably help.

And hit me with an e-mail Aaron...
