Anyone race one?
Been thinking about trying one, but wanted to see/hear who's riding them and what they think...

Models?
Mods?
Fun factor?
Classes?
Maintenance?
Competitiveness?

Sorry ECU is so jealous, but reality is Buells rock for 100 reasons.
1 Buell motor co. actually does things for beginer racers, like PAY THEM! The new Thunderbike program will pay for your weekend without having to be a super rocket.
2 Geting help from a "Buell friendly " dealer is reasonably easy. HD dealers know it's about people and really are interested in what you're doing. A simple thing like being a control rider for a demo weekend can earn alot of gratus stuff.
3 The older tube frame models were pretty maintence intensive. The XB model is supposed to be near bulletproof (I've never raced one , but everyone I know swares by them)
4 Fun factor? It's a Harley V twin that flies. How much more fun is there? OK, maybe a supersingle.
5 Mods. It's a f'n Harley. There is about a million companys making go fast stuff to bolt on to it. It's a little tough dicerning Hep from Hype, but 1 weekend observing what the fast guys use and you'll understand what works.
6 I was an ol guy idiot having fun and at nationals, actual knowledgeable fast guys would stop by to help me get it together.
7 LWGP, LWSB, Thunderbike, GTL, supertwins, F40LW (if you're old) are classes you can win. If you're really fast, take on the 600's and never get off the seat.
Who knows what a old XB race bike is going to be worth when you're done with it, but my old tube frame is being resurected with a chromed frame, lights, XR tailsection, and new paint, to be a badass street tracker. What do you do with a 5 year old SV racebike?
They ARE, different. But that is part of the fun.

Go spend $25 on track entry. Talk face to face with the Buellers. If you have a perpendency for twins, and what healthy male doesn't, take a look at the XB 9 and 12Rs. Find one affordable, bolt on oil catch pan, and make real Buell money. USA! USA! USA! USA! Where do you race bdomenz?

Bob,

Are you going to be at Blackhawk this weekend? Stop by and I'll be happy to answer all your questions. I'll be pitted just past the track cross-over.

Or pm me anytime.

Generally...

XB9R or XB12R.

I keep mine pretty stock. I can show you what mods I've made.

Very fun. Great handling. Excellent chassis and brakes. Torquey motor.

All LW classes (per rules). Plus Thunderbike, GT Lights and SuperTwins.

Pretty much gas and go. Oil change every weekend. No valve adjustments needed.

Competitive? Check the results. As you know Key and Lacy are pretty hard to beat, but I try to keep 'em honest.
