Hey guys. Im wondering what kind of mods are popular and/or recomended for the svs. Im thinking racing fairings, a pipe (full system or s/o? what company?), maybe a slipper clutch, PCIII? i really dont know i just have some ideas of what would be wanted, and i don't know which companies make the better product for the svs. how is the svs stock suspension? would aftermarket be a good investment. I know about tires, but i'll save tires for anothe rpost.

If your looking at doing some mods on a SV go with a M4 full system pipe, Penske rear shock, 520 kit, and if you dont want to go with GSXR front forks get your stock suspension revalved. Oh, and get some some frame sliders too.

I have a 2003 SV650s.

I would buy a pipe (I have an M4), don't bother with any fuel injection adjuster - doesn't seem to need one with only a pipe. This would be a racing only mod. ALL street bikes should use the nice quiet stock exhaust.

Have the suspension upgraded. The fork needs help and the shock needs to find a new home in the nearest trash bin.

Slipper clutch - I don't think anyone is making one for the 650, I wouldn't mind getting/trying one.

I use bars and rear sets from Woodcraft. Eric Wood is a racer making products for other racers.

My 03 trans shifted like crap - I guess this is not too uncommon for an SV. Like Ed Key says, it ain't no Honda. After last year, I had my tranny undercut (both up and down shift), huge improvement. Fast by Gast, about $500 (inspection, undercutting, and shot peening).

You will need race bodywork. I used RC51 (had it laying around). Made all my own mounts and subframe. Frame sliders are a good idea.

I've just finished an 03 SV650 myself.  Penske, 98 GSXR forks by Suspension Solutions at Lithium Motorsports, Armor Bodywork, Arrow Pipe, GP Tech fairing stay, Woodcraft rearsets, GPR damper, 520 chain & Gears, MotoSliders frame and swingarm silders, and other stuff.  If you call Lithium, (They advertise at the top of this page) they can hook you up with the complete grocery list of what went into my bike, and offer you good prices, too.
The frame was snapped, the #3 rod was dangling from a hole in the cases, and what was left had been consumed by fire.  I said, "Hey, we've got all night!"

Definetly start with suspension. The stock stuff is crap! It does nothing but pogo the whole way around a turn! New springs, heavier oil and emulators in the front is some of the more common mods to the front forks. Traxxion now makes a cartridge kit that drops right in that is awesome. it gives the stock forks full adjustability and gets rid of the damper fork mechanisn that comes stock. A bit pricey at around 1K though. For the rear, a good aftermarket shock is a must. Penske, Ohlins, etc. all make good ones.

cool, i'll try to look for those specific brands. thanx guys. what about brakes? are the stock stoppers any good?

Is the M4 a high mount pipe?

What about the stock clutch? is it smotth or does it need some work?

The M4 can be had as a high mount.  My Arrow pipe is a high mount, and it really boosted the midrange torque.  As a bonus, it weighs less than the box it came in.  Ryan at Suspension Solutions is very familier with the SV forks, and carries and installs all the Traxxion Dynamics products.  I like Vesrah RJL pads in anything I race.  Steel braided lines and good brake fluid for sure.
The SV clutch hasn't been a problem for most guys until they build a superbike motor.
Call Lithium.  They have everything you need.  (Can you tell that they sponsor me?)

mmbmbffffph....  pttu.... (wiping mouth)  Yeah, that about covers it, Dawn. ::)
Still, Rob at Lithium is EXCELLENT.  He works with everyone.  If you're putting together an entire package from scratch, you'll be spending thousands.  Save your bread, buy everything at once, and talk to Rob about a package deal.
