Slipper clutch

I recieved my Novice CCS license from Tiffany at Clearchannel last week. After just a few track days to get used to the bike I am have a chattering problem with the rear end sliding all around.

Found a 1000RR slipper clutch on Ebay for cheap.

Will this solve my problems?

What is the install like, simple bolt in?

Do I HAVE to get the clutch holding tool to properly install it?

How many other people are using this model slipper?

It's not a simple bolt in, but if you've been around mechanics it's not that hard.  You will need an impact wrench though and it's definitely far easier if two people do it.  If you know what you're doing it's about an hour job.  

If you don't know what you're doing, I'd take it to the shop.  It wouldn't be a ton of labor if you brought the bike to them with the fairings off.  

BTW, I'd be inclined to check the suspension settings if you're getting wheel hop ALL the time.  Yes, the slipper clutch will definitely help; but you need to look at other things as well.  Are you rev matching or slowly letting out the clutch upon downshifting?  Just some thoughts.  :)

I would agree with Clay here on all accounts.  

Don't use this to mask a riding problem.  Try different gearing.  Adjust your suspension.

When you solve the rear wheel hop and drop your lap times, THEN pick up the slipper clutch...

Well BRG, I will say that if he can get it for a low price and it's NOT going to hurt his wallet...go for it.  I JUST put a slipper clutch in my bike after a year of racing and MAN...what a difference!  I LOVE IT! ;D

I rode Clays bike and love the slipper but listen to what's been posted.  Learn to ride correctly w/o a slipper first.  Most of the rear hopping underbraking is mismatch on the revs.  I use to not rev it high enough.  Too much rebound will also not allow the rear to settle/stay on the pavement when hard on the brakes.  But typically it's the rider fault!

a slipper clutch is awsome on a big bike.  the stm has alot of parts.

yoyodyne sells one for 795.00 its bolt on and it works great.

Thanks for everyones comments. Still looking for anyone who has installed them personally.

About the Yoyo. I've had bad relations with them already in my brief dealings. I also know that the Yoyo balls can fall out and destroy the clutch unless you keep checking clearence on the clutch plates.

By comparison the STM has a built in ball stop that will not allow this to happen.
