Should the AMA go with a spec tire?

One problem might be tire diameter.

Do all the SB privateers run 16.5" rims?
Should everyone then have to ride the same size rim (16.5 or 17)?

The fodder of the AMA grid is still made up of private riders.  They pay for their tires, and they are, potentially, tires of their choice through relationships and agreements.

A spec tire supplier would probably "charge" everyone the same amount, not offer it to everyone for free.

The tire bill alone is a killer to most riders/teams.

Most of the cool development tires that the faster riders use would not work correctly for most riders.

Let's be frank...the fast guys are special, and they have special skills.  They can usually utilize those unique tires, whereas, most others cannot.
