Engine Removal and Installation Stand Interest

Out of necessity(Too many motor swaps) I have developed a pretty cool engine installation/removal stand. I am trying to judge whether anyone else out there would be interested purchasing a device that makes pulling and reinstalling a motor much easier. The stand works in conjunction with a rear spool stand and a front tripple tree lift stand. No more having to roll on the ground trying to get the frame mounts to line up. The stand aligns everything perfectly for an easy removal and installation. With the stand I can now completely remove and reinstall a GSXR motor in about and hour and half from running to running by myself with no other help. The stand would probably run about $180-$200. The stand would be completely adjustable and would work for just about any inline 4 cylinder motor and frame combination. Please reply if you would be interested in something like this. I would hate to waste time making and trying to sell something that people are not interested in buying.

Thanks again

What about a bike that has the engine as a stressed member...as in you have to remove the swingarm w/the engine?  (929/954)

The stand would work for that setup. But you would have to use something else (other than a swingarm stand) to lift and hold up the back end of the frame once the swingarm and frame are detached. And then obviously you would have to take the swingarm off from the engine. I have never worked on a 929/954 so I do not know exactly how it is all attached but the stand would hold the motor and the frame would have to be lifted up off from the motor. Then it would work in reverse for installation. Just another step but it would work. You would just need something to hold the back end of the frame. Again this is a work in progress.

I'd be interested in trying one, but I'm a Honda guy and most all honda motors bolt through the swingarm, so I'd have to see what I'd be dealing with...

Got any pics?

I only have a rough prototype that I definitely would not want seen as something that would even come close to what I would produce. I will check out a schematic of a honda but I really don't see any reason why the stand would not work. The only difference is how the rear of the bike is held up off from the motor. I guess you could always remove the swingarm first and then remove the motor as well.

I typically pull the wheels, etc, set the bike down on the motor and lift the frame off the motor...  But that's just me...

What you would probably need to do with this stand is cut a 2x6 to length to hold the rear of the frame at a certain height you choose(the front is still held by a triple tree stand). Then set the stand up to hold the motor at this height. Then unbolt the motor from the frame. You would then have to lift the rear of the frame up and push the wheeled motor stand with motor/swingarm out from under the frame. Then to reinstall, lift frame, slide motor/swingarm under and set frame back on the 2x6. The frame mount holes will line up with the engine and you just bolt the motor back up. Again no rolling on the ground trying the line up the frame with the engine and then trying to put it back up on the stands and the whole hassle. It works damned slick on the suzuki.

i just grab the motor while someone takes out the last two bolts...

but its a 250 :P :P :P and i have a stand already built for working on it on a table

Yea it must be nice to have a motor you can just grab and hold easily. Four strokes don't come out quite as easily.

On my 250 I have put the engine in by having the engine in my lap while sitting under the bike, and pushing the engine up with my legs while I shove in the bolts.  ;D  I have since found a cart that with a chunk of 4X4 sets the engine at about the right height and it's an easy one-man job.

As far as Dan's stand, it would be useful if the engine stand could be used to also hold the BIKE up by the engine with the front stand removed.  This would make for easy headset bearing changes.

You could actually use the stand in that manner as well. It would hold the bike up by the motor.

That does sound like a tool that would be helpfull. I could be down to pick uo one so long as I could use it on any bike( any inline 4) as a gsxr, yam, or homda. ( sorry jeff and ike about the humda line)
