Can anybody help  me with what gearing to run at Road America on a SV650.

I am starting with 16/43. Another rider (Jason D'Amico) told me he had used 16/42. I am assuming that we will not be using the Kink. This may cause some gearing changes.

16/43 = 15/46 right?  Why would we not use the kink?   ???

For the AMA they put in "the bend" to slow people down going through the kink because it was just "too dangerous."

Since the AMA uses the bend, I don't know why we wouldn't be using it too...

Damn, didn't know that was you Lee. The correct gearing is 13/50.

43/16 = 2.6875
46/15 = 3.0667
40/15 = 2.6667
41/15 = 2.7333

43/16 is closer to 40/15. Here is how to calculate. Divide 43 by 16 then multiply by 15 to get rear sprocket.

(43/16)*15 = 40.3125

The Bend was added to slow speeds through the Kink. RA will probably require all motorcycles to use the Bend.

What is the 15 for, the way I have always done it, and been taught to do it is to divide the front by the rear,

16/43 = .372
15/46 = .326
15/47 = .319

As you can see 16/43 is geared higher than a 15/46.

The 15 was to calculate the equivalent gearing using a 15 tooth front sprocket. Most of the people I learned from divide the rear sprocket by the countershaft sprocket.
