Can anyone fill me in or point me in the right direction for finding out more info on Super Moto?  I know I can enter ccs races in ultra lightweight with a moto bike but, I'm looking for smaller, tighter, slower courses (I don't really want to repeat my HPT experience).  I just like diving a bike into a corner more than the outright speed and for sum dam dumbass reason I cant get the feeling of being out on a track out of my head.  Friends (that don't race) and family think I hit that wall a little to hard and I'm out of my freaking mind.  You people understand this feeling I'm sure.  I figure I can set up a super moto for the summer and throw on some ice tires to play a little in the winter too.  I was thinking about a 250 four stroke would be fun to play with.  I know they have a little track over in Marshalltown, Ia and was wondering if anyone in the Midwest knows about more tracks.  I would like to find some more within 3-4 hrs of Cedar Rapids, IA

Do or do not, there is no "try".

Brad... you'd have to travel, but in the winter if you can do any ice riding/racing you will be in HEAVEN...  it's a LOT like roadracing but slide the decimal point 2-3 places to the left on the COST line...  It's dirt cheap.

Jeff, I'm in on the ice racing.  I know of a Yamaha 250 4-stroke I can pic up at a good price, I will need to invest in some different rims and tires but I figure I can have it set up for super moto and ice for around $4k and when I crash it won't cost a thing to fix. Or very little.

Yep, found that website today.  Looks like a pretty good series.  It will probably be where I end up next year.  I plan on getting a bike together over summer and hit a few track days this fall.

brad you sounded like you threw the towel when i met you a couple days ago on the forum glad your facing your demon i to have the need to come back like unfinished business .lot of guys like taladega for short course [haven't been there since repave] here in fla we have some go cart tracks that let ysr 50's and Minnie bikes on and its a blast and if you crash its not nearly as violent Marc

Ducmarc- I have always wanted to get back on.  I think it is the same for all racers, there is just a pasion for it.  People that don't race just don't understand, they just can't.  It took a little (ok a lot!) to convince my fiance' to let me go back.  I told her when she started dating me that I raced and at the time she thought it was pretty neat that I did.  I always told her she might feel different after I went down.  I wasn't expecting to have a complete disaster insted of an accident.  She made it thru the whole ordeal quite well.  She really doesn't want me to go back.  I told her she fell in love with me for who I am and if I don't have bikes and racing in my life I won't be that same person.  So I compromised, smaller tracks, less speed, less chance of getting majorly hurt.  I know that all things fun have a risk, but it isn't like my job is overly safe anyway.  Funny thing is my job is in the top ten for most dangerous jobs to have, but friends and family don't think anything about the every day risks of my job.  The are the first to fly off the deep end when I bring up racing.

I would very strongly recommend a 450 for ice riding. Good ice tires are very heavy. I run Rozines and my rear rim and tire probably weigh 50 pounds.

Between the weight of the tires and the style of riding required to go fast on ice, It's very hard on motors. 250f's tend to come apart pretty quick.

Brad I know it's true that my family takes the brunt of the pain in this ordeal my wife was handicapped by a drunk driver now she is coping with my injury but I think she understands that with this passion we have to finish what we started even if its 3 laps just to say I'm done . I really feel for guys like Wayne Rainey who are done. I was standing in the hot pit in Daytona when Scott Russell lost his career, so it could be worse. Although as a truck mechanic my career may be gone too.  My best therapy has been my race buddies coming by and talking about their racing and injuries too.

This will be my 4th season racing Supermoto and I really enjoy it.  I believe the closest track is likely in Springfield, IL.  Basically, there are three racing series within the area.

Illinois: http://www.brbpromotions.com/supermoto.htm
Wisconsin: http://www.superbikers2.com/index.html
Minnesota: http://www.delanosports.com/custompage2.asp?pg=Home

There are trackdays often organized at the Springfield and Norway Illinois tracks.  I haven't been over to the Iowa track just yet.  My advice is to check the classifieds for a bike that's already built here: http://supermotojunkie.com/

it may be a little bit of a haul for you but this track is absolutely killer for motard
