I know this is very amateur, but I do not have the manual as I bought the shock used and am reluctant to go twisting it up since it costs a small fortune and especially given it's history (this is the very shock off of Duhamel's FX bike).
Anyways, on to the question: the shock hose is in the way of the mounting bracket.  I'm assuming I can twist on the shock and move out of the way, but again don't want to go twisting anything around without a manual.  I know this is really simple but don't want to take chances.  Thanks for any input in advance.

Since it's claimed to be off Miguel's FX bike, the mounting that American Honda used might have no relationship to an OEM bike.  Yeah, you could twist the shock to get it in, but will the preload hose rub against the mounting point.

Grinding the mounting point might be necessary to give you clearance.  Moving the whole hydraulic preload mechanism might help a little, but it doesn't look to be the whole answer.

You can turn it... as Dave has already stated.  Not to burst your bubble, but I guarantee that the only thing that shock has in common with Miguel's shock is the external housing.  Those factory bastards are notorious for doing that.  It is cool as a collectible though.  Aren't FX bikes allowed to have different swingarms and frame bracing?  If so, that could be causing an issue.

I got the shock in by adjusting it after I got my hands on the right tool (Ohlins c-spanner wrench).
I proceeded to install the exhaust and now have encountered a different issue - the Ohlins shock hose that goes from main body to the piggyback is in too-close-for-my-confort of a proximity to the exhaust mid-pipe.  I'm looking for suggestions of some good heat insulating material to use in this application.  Otherwise, the bike is shaping up nicely.  Here are a few pics to illustrate:

Otherwise here are a few more pics of the shock and some of the Honda Factory Jardine Exhaust :

I know.  Before they'd sell me the shock, Miguel's valving was changed to standard and the shock was re-sprung for my weight with a 105Nm spring.  The mounting was a little bit different, but nothing significant to the point of making the shock incompatible.

Thanks for your input guys.

Have you compressed that rear end yet?  When you do, you'll likely find that your reservoir is gonna hit the battery box.  That was one problem with mounting the reservoir there.

That bike looks to pretty to race!  :thumb:

while thank you Mike.  The bodywork looks alot better in the pics than real life.  They're Hotbodies spay painted w / a can. I'll post addt'l pics after all the parts are installed...have a Brembo MC, frame sliders and a yoyodine slipper clutch to go.

Not yet.  I'll get to that tonight and I hope you're not as wise as you sound :)

Didn't you already ask this question on the WERA board? What as squid. :D

hrvat2

I posted the questions on several boards trying to get an immediate answer as I was working on the bike at the moment.  If that makes me a squid so I'm proud to be one  :wtf:
