Since many of you are in some ways my best friends, I thought I'd share my news with you.
My work colleagues and I submitted paperwork 2 years ago, then yesterday I received a message that I was awarded my first patent for work related to my job.
Patent No: 6766775
Issue Date: Jul 27 2004
Country: United States of America
Title: METHOD AND SYSTEM FOR INCREASING THE ESTIMATION ACCURACY OF CAM PHASE ANGLE IN AN ENGINE WITH VARIABLE CAM TIMING
Historic Docket No: 200-1193US...
Anaqua Record Id No: 81035455
Hopefully, this is the first of many.
Congratulations!
:D
Heather
WOW!!!!
Congratulations, man! :D :D
Sean, you are the MONSTA!
Keep it up and you can retire from Ford to a life of full-time racing before you qualify for Formula 40!
Hope there's some financial reward in it for you!
Rick
Way to go Sean. You are forever etched in history. 8) :D
That's awesome! :D
There's a small financial reward, but nothing to contemplate retirement on. Thanks guys.
QuoteThere's a small financial reward, but nothing to contemplate retirement on. Thanks guys.
Aside from the financial aspect, this is something that is permanant; a legacy. Can't put a price on that. 8)
I never thought about having a legacy. I'll hold off on that accolade until I've got a few more to my credit. I'm satisfied with just being called Monsta, the "Cycle Psycho".
Now if I could only have Einstein's hair, then we can talk about legacies.
Fantastic Sean!
Getting a patent is really cool. I've had several submissions, but none go to full patent.
pimpin' 8)

You'd look like Don King's genius brother. :o ;) ;D
That's sounds a lot cooler than mine:
Patent no. 6511334
Bridcage Torsion Harness Assembly for Rotating Gimbal
Congrats!
-z.
I've got one pending.
Multi-Network telemetry/cellular module.
It's been pending for a while, but I got the 2003 Design and Engineering Award from the Consumer Electronics Assoc. for it 8)
I looked at the patent online. It has actually been almost 3 years since we submitted it. Hopefully those pending patents will come around.
Gimbal eh? That sound cool. Mine was just software algorithm.
Nice job, Sean, here's a link to mine:

Patents, especially software patents, are a promise by the USPTO that you can now spend tons of $ to defend them. ::)
Good Luck! :)
nice job!!!
Will I see you @ gingerman this weekend
sixty
Congratulations Sean! Welcome to the club! :)
Here is mine. I was named sole inventor, but forced to assign all rights to the company I was working for for $1. It sucked because I could have made millions (no joke) through licensing, but I was a college student with no money and no means to fight the large corporation I was working for as a co-op student!
US Patent No. 5,705,110
Date: January 6, 1998
Process for reducing cross link vapors from rotomolded products made of cross link polyethlylene
Abstract
A method to reduce cross link vapors trapped in hollow cross link polyethylene products produced by rotomolding is disclosed. Ozone is introduced into the hollow product after the polymer has cross linked. Compressed air is delivered with the ozone to circulate the ozone effectively. Use of the ozone oxidizes the cross link vapors and permits reduction in stored inventory of units awaiting dissipation of the cross link polyethylene vapors. A system for batch treatment of the products is also disclosed.
Mine patent hardly competes on the same level as some of the ones listed here.
One thing's for sure, I knew the folks of this forum were special even before we starting talking about patents.
QuoteI knew the folks of this forum were special even before we starting talking about patents.
Oh, we are special allright. Look at K3, Super Dave and Stumpy... Very special!!!
Yeah, Dave even rides in a short bus! :o ;) ;D

Don't sell your accomplishment short. Software algorithms make my head hurt! ;D
Got one pending as well: "Molecular contaminant film modeling tool." Basically if bweber's cross link vapors escape from polyethylene and condense on optical surfaces sensitive to IR absorptions, I can use this tool to predict the condensed film thickness and impact to the optical system's performance.
Way to go Sean! Wooooo hoooooo! First of many I am sure! ;) Mark!
VARIABLE CAM TIMING eh? Is that engine a Honda? Sounds like a VTEC thing. Great job Shawn!
I once invented a 24hp, liquid cooled seed spreader...Never got a patent on it though :-/ ;D
Stumpy
Someone make an operational mute button for women, and I'll pay to have it patented ;) ;D
All i've been hearing all day:
"Your on the phone again? All you do is sit on the phone, and play with that stupid internet thing." "When are you gonna... blah, blah, blah."
It's kinda like listening to that one person on Charlie Brown.
Wah.Wah.Wah.Wha Wha.....
<running skeered>

You should be running scared after a comment like that. Keep it up and that new wife of yours will be collecting on your life insurance.... >:( ;)
Dawn
I got a little scared after I saw your name as the new post to the thread :o :( ;D
I'm still working on the pewney part :(
;D
You guys will be thanking me when you're old and losing your teeth:
United States Patent 6,124,374
Kolias , et al. September 26, 2000
Antimicrobial denture adhesive and cleanser compositions
;D
Gee, as a writer with a pending copyright, I feel... so... inadequate!
Oh well. I'm proud of you Sean. You guys can go ahead and change the world, and I'll just write about it.
Congratulations to you K3. When's it coming out?

But we did slap a Ruff Ryders sticker on it! ;D
You're right Edgar. He is special. ;)
Heather
;D Nice job. Give yourself a pat on the back.
QuoteCongratulations to you K3. When's it coming out?
Not sold yet. I applied for a copyright from the feds, so that is pending. I do have a publisher who read a chapter and asked to see the rest. I'm waiting... hoping... dreaming...
Dear Sir or Madam would you read my book it took me years to write could you take a look? I can SOOOOO relate! :-/

Oooooo.... How exciting!
Can I get a first edition autographed copy?
;)
I will never have a patent.....
I will probably never have anything copywrited....
I will not go down in the history books of doing anything significant.....
Talk about feeling inadequate :-/
Oh well, you poor souls will just have to put up with me.
Dawn ;)
Dawn, you are a good mom and thats worth more than 1000 patents. :D
