Title: Mid America Motorplex
Post by: GSXR RACER MIKE on June 26, 2004, 08:10:23 PM
Well it's time to start the role call for the MAM twin sprint event. My plan as of now is to attend both days and run 4 classes each day (hopefully that is - for those that know me!  ::)  ;)).

The weather mis-forecast, as of Saturday June 26, is calling for lows in the mid 60's with high's in the upper 80's and little chance of rain for the entire weekend. Now let's see how accurate that actually ends up! ;)

70% chance of being there.  If I do go, there is a 100% chance of temperatures above 100 degrees.

I was watching you and MJ battle at HP when that belly pan started thinking it should be doing different lines than you were. :o Glad to see that it didn't take you or anyone else out. :)

OMG me too! That track just beat the piss out of the bike and me! If it wasnt one thing it was another with that freaky belly pan. That was just one of many things that broke on my bike.  :-[  ;) It felt like I was back on the Sportie on the old BHF pavement, but 10 times worse!

Sthinger is S(P)o o  n  ER, but the board automatically changes the spelling because it thinks its offensive.

He is one my teammates - rides the 01 blue/grey gixxer.

I know dude... I'm sorry.  Believe me, there is no one more disappointed than myself  :(

I *really* want to go... but I managed to do a number on my bike at VIR on Saturday (nice top-of-3rd-gear lowside, doh!)  Even if I ordered the parts today, there's no way I'd have them here in time to get the bike assembled, and get on the road to make MAM.  Instead, I'm gonna surf ebay for some of the bigger, more expensive bits (tank, triples) and get it all together for BHF on the 17th.

Are you guys gonna make any of the BHF dates this year?  You gonna try to run Barber again?

It's a track run practice...so they are screwing us, basically.  I've been to other tracks that charge a lot less...

Not sure what to say...

Need to run in my motor though.

If I had known that the CCS had not reserved the Friday for practice I would have rented the track and held a practice day for everyone at a much more reasonable price.

Dean- that's why I was asking you why you didn't do your thing before the race weekend as apposed to after it.  I'd love to give you my money over giving it to MAM.

Rich- We'll be there for the rip off practice day on Friday, see you there all weekend.  We'll save you a spot next to us or the Halls.

S(P)ooner- You gotta try harder than that to be offensive to this group!  See you at MAM.

Where does it say its $175 at?  I checked their calender and the CCS one and all it says is MAM is hosting the test and tune day, but not how much.  Usually they can run the trackdays cheaper for race license holders because of the insurance they have to pay, so generally they hook us up-thats pretty shitty if they are just sticking it to us because they know a number of us have to do that day...still grumbling... ;D

That's rough...I just got that price confirmed.  Ouch!
Don't they know we are broke?  I may just do a half day  :'(

Members get almost half off, but it's like $350 for a membership.

Anyone have any pull at that track?  We need to get that price adjusted a bit.

I called them again and confirmed the price.  I then told her that was 2 1/2 times what some other tracks were charging and asked her why it was so expensive.  She responded (politely) that was the standard price and she was sorry if I did not like it.  I (politely) responded that I was sorry that she would not get my business.  :-/

$175!!!! WHAT!!! Are they on crack?!? We went there with CRA and the friday practice day was $75.00! Good thing I already got some track time there this year!

I think we should all boycott the trackday. If no one signs up they may realize that it's not worth the expense to pay all the cornerworkers and ambulances unless they make it feasible for people to be able to afford it! I mean, I can see street people paying it for a trackday, but for us to pay $175.00 for practice and then you add $400+ in entry fees, it turns into one very expensive weekend!

i live about 2 hrs. from the track and thursdays are open track days. it's like $100 to run from noon till dark on one of those days. it's only $50 if you get there after 4 p.m. this $175 stuff is crap. i was planning on doing thursday and friday. don't know what they're thinking, but i'll be there thursday and not friday. that is if it's dry, i saw on the weather channel this morning that there's a chance of rain everyday from thurs.-sun.

QuoteI think we should all boycott the trackday.

Took the words out of my mouth.  S P 0 0 N E R informed me today that an executive decision has been made to skip the practice due to the cost (funny - don't remember being consulted on that one - although I am in favor)  I think it would be a great idea if we all boycotted it - at that price I'll due a track day (or even two) and get my fix.

Chuck - we'll be up Friday afternoon so please save us a spot - preferrably a big one as we'll have two trucks and a pop up camper this time.

$175 is absurd.

But, since it's my only race weekend this year, I guess I'll do it.  *sigh*

Rich-  We will be there round 10am on Friday, I'll do what I can to save our KC clown pit area.  ;)

Yea everyone will say they boycott it then there will be the rascals that take advantage of that and run it.  Then on Saturday they'll be that much farther ahead.  No thanks, I'm just going to do a half day and call it good.

The lady I spoke to on the phone sounded very irratated that I asked for a discount.  She tried really hard to be polite though.

I think everyone should bitch at CCS for not reserving the day.  It would have been the standard $75-100 if they had.  The way the manager at MAM made it sound is that CCS had the opportunity and denide it.

I'm on CCS side here...

The track charges a lot...they are proud of their packaging...

So, they have to run a twin sprint weekend just to try to get it to break even...

Most places they do NOT buy practice for a third day.  Maybe for FUSA events, but not a regional.  Regardless, $175 is about $70 to $100 than most tracks.

To make things worse, the Omaha/KC/Des Moines area doesn't have the thirty years or motorcycle road racing saturation in the market to give much support to anything there.  Chicago?  Well, Blackhawk was built in 1967...Road America...nearly forever.

Being from Omaha myself, it was always hard to try to get guys motivated about going racing let alone just coming for a seven hour trip.

Doing the AMA series was good from Omaha though...I could be at Laguna, Sears Point, Daytona, Phoenix, or Loudon in 24 hours.

I just looked at the radar for MAM and it looks like there getting drenched during their expensive practice day, poor guys! :-/

My plans have changed, so now I won't be going till Saturday evening and I will only be racing on Sunday. I have never stayed overnight at the track before, does anybody know if there is a fee and is there a cut-off time for getting into the track?  :)
