Title: How long was I out for at Pocono?
Post by: cho on September 12, 2002, 08:01:28 PM
Hi all...I am the guy who crashed in the AM GTO at Pocono on 8/23.  First off, I'd like to thank everyone for the assistance I received after I had crashed.  Unfortunatley, I don't even remember entering the race or what happened afterwards, but my friend told me how I had many corner workers helping me out afterwards.  I was just curious as to how long I was unconscious for.  I believe the doctors told me that I was out until after the helicopter ride, but I was just curious to hear from anyone who was there.  I don't remember anything from like 12pm till 6 or 7pm.  So if any of you can help me out, I'd appreciate it very much.

Thanks,
Howard Cho

From what I heard sitting on the grid after the wreck you do not want a recap.

You know, it doesn't bother me (strangely enough).  It actually helps me appreciate the turnout more...as well as all the people who helped me out.  MSD108 told me a bit last night, but he was curious as well.

I have assisted other riders with serious injuries and brain injuries after the crash.  They have all found it helpful to have as many details about their injuries as possible.  What I always refrain from is decribing the specific incident, especially if more than one motorcycle was involved.  But personal medical info has always be helpful.

You should get copies of the complete medical right ups that should have details on it as to how long you were out and make sure that your Primary Care Physician has them.

Howard I don't know anything about your crash, but I sure hope you are feeling better.  I took the MARRC school with you last year and got to do some racing with you.  Hope to see you back at the track in the future.  Bernie

LauraCole:  I just replied to you on the other CCS board.  My business partner has told me to also contact the referred physicians to find out if they are covered under my health insurance.  These are all good ideas...I thank you (again).

Bernie:  I'm surprised you remembered me from the MARRC school, but I guess there weren't many Asians in the race school at the time.  I'm feeling much better and am back at work, but (as I said in the other post) I really do appreciate the concern.  So you said you raced with me...are you sure you're not just passing me and being polite?  ha ha.  What type of bike are you racing?  I never notice the numbers on the bikes, but I almost never forget a face...too bad this chat program doesn't include faces.  You don't by chance have dreadlocks, do you?

Nope no dreads here!  I race the blue TLR #762.  I remember you because you were pretty fast in the school, and I hard a hard time keeping up with you in GTOs.  My season this year has sucked.  Got hurt at a preseason track day, and haven't been right all year.  Checkbook: broke  Bike: broke  body: broke.  Dang!! can't wait for next year!!  Bernie

Well I'm new on this board so sorry for this late reply. I was one of the first to get to you. We clear away when the medics get there and you were still out then. I held the blanket when the chopper arrived. You were then conscious or at least awake. I've seen enough of these things to know that because your eyes are open and you are talking it doesn't mean that anybody is home. I hope your alright and don't suffer any long term effects.

Thank you very much.  I am almost 100% physically, and am expecting a full recovery.  My short-term memory was affected slightly, but should get better as time goes on.  I didn't wake up mentally until about 6pm that night in the hospital.  It does appear that the lights were on, but noone was home in my head.  I have been told that I tried to call off the helicopter...it's a good thing the helicopter still came.  Once again, I appreciate all that was done to help me make it through that accident.  Now I've learned to never watch my friends crash...

Glad to see that you are ok.
I am the guy with the dreads,(AM#508) on Sunday  august 25 while racing at the Pocono in turn 5 which take you on the banking. I was hit from behind (by a person I still dont know ) came off the bike, slid off the race line, but through it all the rider who hit me in the back came out there and run me over.

Did,nt know I had internal injuries I went back out and race my next race. Towards the end of that race that when I realized somthing was not right. I finish went in got off the bike and could not move. to mak a long story short. My liver kidney spleen was damage and I broke a rib. Two week in the hospital.  My question is WHO WAS THE GUY THAT HIT ME? Not even an apology?? Brother do better than that.

Kevin AM # 508

Hi, sorry to resurrect an old thread, but if you raced in the Mid-Atlantic region in 2001-2002, you might be in the videos I posted on YouTube.  I have more tapes, but they're Hi-8, so I need to find a camera/deck so I can digitize/upload them.  If you're in there, enjoy!  I gotta admit, though, the focus is on my friends and myself.
