Post by: Woofentino Pugrossi on December 19, 2003, 07:12:58 PM
is it acceptable to mount 3/16" X 3/4" wide steel straps over the said OEM covers? I;ve seen EX500's done like that i teh past. Still good?

Yes but the case covers have been made for a number of years surprised you cannot find any. Actually the rule calls for case guards which are what you describe with hardened case covers also acceptable.

Problem is Erik, YZF750s' arent the "in" bike anymore since 96. Most of those companies stopped making them since this isnt a popular bike and not made in sufficiant quantities. I've seen less than 10 YZF750's personally in the last 6 yrs I've owned the bike. NRC doesnt have them anymore, Factory doesnt, Woodcraft never made them and Vortex doesnt anymore. Yamaha had a kit covers that were 1" thick aluminum, but are very $$ and harder to find.

After grinding my FZR's case covers pretty low I cut out some 1/4" aluminum plate, jb welded it onto the cover and trimmed it to fit with a hand grinder.  It looked decent and passed tech several times...
