Title: If you can do only one exercise....
Post by: Speedballer347 on June 01, 2010, 10:45:11 PM
...for racing what would it be?
Weights w/ high reps?  Cardio? Etc....
If you could do just one??????????

What about heat acclimation?  The heat knocks me out immediatly....what can I do to deal with it?

Speedy,
Come back to Kuk Sool Won. We will get your cardio way up. Do one 6 hour black belt class like I did before the last track day and you won't notice the heat!.....The best exercise there is and ever will be for good cardio is running or biking.....Oh and Quit smoking damn it!!!!!!!!

well, it takes time to get in shape. If you don't have a couple three months there are things that can help deal with heat.

start drinking water every day, especially the day before and ALL day at the track. Every session, down a pint or so.
Stay in the shade
Pour some water down the legs, arms, back/front of your leathers. "poor man's ac". Soak your head with water before/after.
Go FAST on the track, seems to make the water feel cooler.
Soak a hand towel with cold water and wear it around your neck.. all day.. when not on the bike.
Couple advil in the morning.. couple advil at the end of the day (maybe that is just me being 42..)
Wear sunglasses, less fatigue on the eyes.
Wear earplugs.. (see above but substitue "ears" for "eyes")
Don't drink a bunch of beer the night before, alcohol dehydrates you.
EAT meals, don't skip em.. i can't eat much during the heat of a day but at least a couple bananas and powerbars.

Erik,

Sorry for not calling you back last night- got busy.  Anywho, Melka just summarized what I was teling you- drink water. But not just the day of, but rather load up on h2o a couple days PRIOR to a weekend. You body will be fully hydrated before you turn a lap.  Then, you are maintaining your hydration content while on track, rather than trying to hydrate by itself. Increase your water intake about three or so days before the next race weekend.  Your urine should be clear. If not- drink more water!

Not only will being hydrated help you deal with the heat, it will also give your muscles less fatigue during the day, and will speed up recovery time as well.

I also would love to get one of those industrial fans and put it in the CR paddock! That should help!!!!!!!

I agree with everything except the beer part. :)

I'll agree with yoga too.

Get a few yoga DVD's from your local library that is funded by your compulsory funds.  Commit to doing one that you enjoyed.
