Title: ROC MOVED!!!!
Post by: d-wire on April 24, 2010, 11:14:39 AM
http://roadracingworld.com/news/article/?article=40213

Hell yeah!!!!!!  I've skipped the last few ROC's cause it just seemed silly to decide a "national" title with 70% of the lap spent at wide open throttle and only 6 or 7 corners.  Maybe running the ROC at a road coarse will help entries???

Where would you guys like to see it moved.  I'd vote for Barber, VIR or Homestead.

+1 for Barber. Homestead is a fun layout, but man that's a long drive from Wisconsin...

VIR doesn't have openings in its schedule in October or even November.  Looks like Homestead and Barber have openings in October.

I'd vote for Barber or maybe they can see about making the Sept. VIR the ROC. There is an idea.

VIR would be cool but I would go to Barber as long as it's not as expensive as Daytoner.

my guess is it will be Homestead, that is where it was held back in 04 when work was being done at Daytona. I like VIR, but i highly doubt they would have a race there in Oct. just after having one there in Sept.. No way will it be at Palm Beach, and i doubt Road Atlanta just cause CCS never runs there. ALL just speculating of course.. Darn, i know D-wire is no fan of Daytona but i really like the track. Maybe now that im 42 the long track gives me a chance to rest. LOL!

Homestead!
Title: Re: ROC MOVED!!!!
Post by: GSXR RACER MIKE on April 24, 2010, 10:34:52 PM
The traditional ROC weekend shows average temp's at Barber to be a low of 50* and a high of 75* (record high of 90* and a record low of 34*).

The average temp's at VIR that same weekend show a low of 43* and a high of 71* (record high of 88* and a record low of 25*).

VIR and Homestead both host regional races during the 2010 season, Barber and Road Atlanta do not, making them neutral locations.

WERA is continuing with its traditional 'Grand National Finals' at Road Atlanta the weekend before the ROC is scheduled, so the track would already be set-up and racers who race at both events could drive down to Biketoberfest for several days in between events if so desired.

BUT.......if I remember correctly Daytona and Homestead have some type of relationship that was a factor in the 2004 decision.

good to here, while daytona was fun to do just to say i did it it really sucks for bikes. on a 848 it was not fun watching the bigger bikes power away once we hit the banking, knoing on a road course it wouldnt have happened

The Michelin races at Barber seemed very successful last year, if they don't do it again, CCS could take it's place in October couldn't they? I chose Barber over Daytona last year, I'm sure plenty of racers would show up there just because it's such a great track.

Team Challenge should be interesting.  I think they should do it somewhere in between for the 3 easy coast regions at least.  Barber, CMP, VIR.  Hell why not Summit ;)

I was looking forward to Daytona this year. Booo  :wah:

1. D-Wire You Are A Sissy... To say you wouldn't win at Daytona.
2. I for one am very sad to hear we wont be racing at Daytona this Oct. A great track in my opinion!
3. The fast guys will be fast no matter what track they run.

It will be nice to have the tri oval paved especially Nascar Turn 4 over the tunnel.

Homestead, VIR or Barber? VIR & Barber are great tracks. But if I had a choice i would choose Homestead only because its closer to me and I hate driving. Ha

How about Indy?  Centrally located, I'm sure that there would be a ton of entries (I'm guessing a lot of us would like to ride on a MotoGP track) and it has a golf course!

The average temp's at Indy for the ROC weekend show a low of 43* and a high of 65* (record high of 86* and a record low of 25*).

And for kicks, the average temp's at Heartland Park for the ROC weekend show a low of 56* and a high of 74* (record high of 90* and a record low of 19*).

I hope its not Homestead. It's way too far and I think there would be a better turn out if it was at
Barber, VIR, Roebling or even Jersey. Although the weather could be a factor at Jersey also. My vote is for Barber.

I'm from FL, but I did go out to Heartland Park last year, awesome track.  Fun to ride, the alpha ...turn 1 thing was a bit scetchy, but very cool flow and rhythm.

I actually like riding Daytona, especially with just the one banking.....but you can find yourself battling with a rider that you would smoke at any other track on earth, if they have a superior bike.  I prefer a riders track....like Barber or VIR.  Homestead is a very cool track, but yeah....a bit of a drive for lots of guys.

road atlanta would be cool, my personal vote would be for Topeka and the 4 hour drive from home

I wont go to Daytona for a few years but wouldnt mind running the ROC... this could be an opportunity.

Whichever track CCS ends up using, I hope it's one where no one has a real "home track advantage". The year it was held at Homestead, more Florida riders won championships than the rest.

hey Jeanne compared to number FL riders win at Daytona on average the out of towners cleaned house at Homestead.
But that year Jeff Wood and Rob Jensen took most of those out of towner championships.

Track density (number of riders the track is deemed to be able to safely handle at once) can be an issue with smaller tracks and possibly large grids, another closely related issue is the lap time - short lap times mean excessive interaction between the fastest and slowest racers on the track possibly resulting in more accidents. Track width on many smaller tracks can be narrower as well, meaning passing can be insane as you have larger grids of the fastest racers fighting for a national title on a track many may have never raced on before. Paddock size, good PA system for announcements, access in and out of the facility, local weather at that time of the year, and other reasons can all be factors to consider with any track hosting the ROC.

Never been to Daytona & would like to someday.  But, I also agree that the "National Title" should be on a road corse, not on a modified, high speed track with a couple measly turns.

Hallett, while a badass track, is WAYYYY too small and scrappy to handle the possible grid sizes of the ROC. We'd have to hold the races over a three day weekend to contend with the red flags....

Road America is probably my favorite track ever, but Road A in October?  BRRRRR!!!!

I like the idea of Heartland Park Topeka. Great track, good amenities, able to hold the density, etc etc. AND it would give us MW/GP folks a chance to race. No offense to our SE folks, but maybe its time for you guys and gals to make a drive!

after thinking about it (i do that occasionally) kind of takes the event out of the weekend. I know it's a long ride for most of us and i've never had any luck there but racing any other track for ROC seems anti-climatic. or maybe i'm the only one that looks forward to all the aggravation surronding that rediculous weekend. years back before you had to run a honda motor guys would work all year building a car just for indy only to crash on the second lap. i think daytona used be that way also. all year i think about what i can do to be more competitive at daytona. and after another dismal weekend there it starts all over over again.
