Why should I, or my company give you money?
p.s. having a blog is not the answer I or most others are looking for.
Hi Ben,
You are right. Just having a blog in and of itself probably shouldn't be enough to motivate an individual or company to exchange products, services, or money for advertising exposure. But what if it were framed a little differently......What if instead I could say that I could be for a sponsor, a part of a marketing campaign, that included a grass roots effort as well as a web presence. What if also I could say that the web presence I was referring to, provided advertising exposure to a very large audience that met the demographic criterion for your average customer.....would that sound more attractive?
Now as far as the web presence is concerned, I have to be honest. I don't have a huge following yet. In fact, when I was referring to "support" in this thread, I was mostly talking about visiting or following my blog on a regular basis with the hopes that I would begin to gain a following. I know it sounds ambitious, but I think it can be done. I just sat on a panel of web developers and designers where one of the designers receives 1/3 of her income from ad revenue generated from her blog. So even if "donating" money or sponsorship doesn't make sense to a business owner, my hope is that a fellow racer would be willing to show support by generating some traffic to my site.
As far as the gorilla marketing is concerned, I have many Ideas. Some of them are as simple as handing out fliers or t-shirts from sponsors at events.....thought about getting a tattoo of a brand if the price is right....but I'm still contemplating whether or not I have the balls for that....http://ramblingracer.blogspot.com/2009/03/tattoos-for-support.html
I realize that I may be completely out of touch with reality, but at least I am having fun.......
