Title: Lost Tools
Post by: cbr600_mj on November 19, 2008, 11:16:25 AM

Now if we loose some tools at the track is one thing but in space!

D'OH!

Can we get the track announcer to put out a request for some of those million dollar gizma-wrenches for the pit crew a few miles above us!

LOL

Yep, now if we calculate the trajectory, rate of descent, the tools should be in the garage area in Daytona just after the guards open the gates Friday February 27, 2009. Hope they land close to the garage door so we don't have to walk too far.  We'll need them to get the wheels off the bike and get wheels to Dunlop for new tires.
Hope she left the battery charger for the impact in the bag.

I'd hate to be in that position.

Crap happens and you would think they would have a 2nd set up there just in case.

Just think, your working away and the eyes of the world and NASA are on you to perform your job and then your tools are floating away..

Can you imagine what was going through her head....

And her first message to her support staff..

Ahhhh.....MMmmmmmmm, Yaaaaaaa..... Houston?  I kinda lost my tools......
Yes.... They are floating away.... Yes..... Ummm Sorry eh......

They don't carry a second set due to payload restrictions. The shuttle burns about 4.3 million pounds of fuel to reach orbit with a max payload of 63,500 pounds (about 67 lbs of fuel per pound of payload). Adding a few pounds of extra tools something will have to left behind. In this case a few pounds makes a big difference.

"In other space station business Wednesday, the astronauts hooked up some of the gear that was delivered by Endeavour, including a new recycling system for turning urine into drinking water."

Yikes!  Hope she doesn't screw that one up too.  There are worse things than losing a toolbag...
