Title: Breakin the Law - Not just a Judas Priest tune anymore
Post by: Jeff on October 23, 2008, 10:59:08 AM
Now to preface this, I always say (err, SAID) "I do NOT speed!" I just don't.  It's nervewracking and so I just roll ~5mph over and that's it.

Well, earlier this year (like March), I got a ticket doing 37 in a 25.  I was rolling down an unfamiliar 35mph road and suddenly got popped.  I went back to find the sign and there were 2 huge WE Energies trucks in front of the ONE sign that was there, so I never saw it.  No "reduce speed ahead" no nothing.  I couldn't find the cop to tell him and lost it in court (much to my dismay).

2 weeks ago I was driving from S.E. WI down to Evansville, IN.  Rolling in the red Mini Cooper S.  The GPS is taking me on every backroad known to man.  Well, the speed limit is 60.  I'm locked in at 66 on cruise (as verified by GPS, which was later verified 100% accurate).  Anyhow, a county cop rolls up behind me and flips the lights on.

I pull over & he claims he clocked me at 74mph.  I say No freaking way, we argue, etc.  He says "Oh I clocked you like 5 miles back, I had a hell of a time catching up to you".  So I don't know who the hell he clocked but it wasn't me..  I get my $119.00 ticket and I'm pissed.

I get to 60 as fast as the mini will get me there (which is pretty damned quick).  Just as I lock the cruise at 64mph, I come up to construction.  I watch for a sign for a  new speed... none...  just as I enter the construction, a state boy flips his lights on and pulls me over!

I'm talking before the cop even gets to the window.  I start arguing that there's no sign, he argues that there is.  I say "look man, why the EFF would I be speeding when I got a ticket 10 MINUTES AGO!!"  Wife is trying to calm me down, cop is getting more and more nervous.

Cop asks how fast I was going, I said 64.  He says "that's exactly what I clocked you at.  Problem is, the speed limit is 45 in construction".  (so at least I know my GPS is exactly accurate).

So anyhow, long story short, he wrote me out a ticket for 64 in a 45.  Didn't nail me for construction zone.  I went all the way through the construction and turned around to see if there was a sign.  There was.. 1 sign.  I missed it.

Ugh...  3 tickets in a year, two in 10 minutes.  Great for a guy who "doesn't speed"

Not to point this out...
But someone is going to.

Driving 5 over, is speeding.
Granted, its not as fast as I speed... But still speeding.

In other words, it would be like saying "I never cross the blend line" then saying "By over an inch".

And BTW...
What does it take to get banned from Wera?
I'm impressed, to say the least.

But yet somehow it's okay in this thread:

It's all good though. Mongo does what he feels he needs to, in order to keep order so I'm fine with it.

But since I "don't speed" why would I need that?!?  LOL... ugh.  In all 3 tickets, having a radar detector wouldn't have done any good...  tkt 1, I couldn't see the sign, it was blocked.  tkt 2 I don't know who he clocked but it wasn't me.  tkt 3, never saw the sign...  What I need more than a radar detector is to pay more attention to the speed limits, understanding that they can and do change with no notice.. =)

Wow Jeff. I have a buddy who got two tickets in one ride (a few hours apart). Two in 10 minutes is impressive.

I think two tickets in 10 minutes should be a bucket list item too.
