Title: 2003 SV1000 forks: Rebuild or Swap?
Post by: tyler500e on August 30, 2008, 06:48:03 PM
I need some help with my brothers 2003 SV1000. We want to upgrade the front suspension. Can the stock forks be upgraded to make an effective track bike? This bike will be using a Penske rear shock. Can the forks be rebuilt effectively, or should we get GSXR forks and then rebuild those?

I think the early SV1000 forks were better than the later model forks.  All we did to my SV1000 forks was put in correct rate springs and 15wt fork oil.

Rear end can be a problem for the front too.  Make sure you've got the right rate there.

I honestly don't see any dramatic benefit to paying for a change in forks, etc.  I think I went pretty fast on mine.
