On a R6, I ran 1 up in the rear or 1 down in front/1down in rear. It largely came to where I wanted to shift. I basically decided to go lower so I can carry 3rd gear through some of the corners. I would redline at Brake Marker 5, so I just hold on another 30 feet at redline...

Try it out, one down from stock in the rear, and go from there.

I'm a GSXR 600 and my team mates are on R6's. I can tell you that our gearing is significantly different because of the different transmission configurations.

Simply run the gearing you THINK will be about right. Have extra drive gears with you and play around with it from there. Different riding levels will also change gearing requirements. For example, racer A carries more corner speed and gets a harder drive out of the corner than racer B, racer A will then be at a higher RPM quicker thus need longer gearing (assuming both racers are on identical equipment). Gearing could even change throughout the day if begin to feel more comfortable and push harder.

There is no "perfect" gearing for any one track, only starting points for finding what works best.

Thanks guys, I do realize that gearing depends on the rider, I just have never been to VIR and wanted an idea of what some people run there. I plan on going for the first time on the  12 & 13 April weekend.   Thanks again.

Heylewy,

Feel free to stop by my pit as I will be there that weekend as well. I'll help you out, if I can.
