Title: Daytona SS qualifying
Post by: r6_philly on March 06, 2003, 04:11:08 PM
It seems that they are using the 112% rule, with 47 riders qualified under 2:06. That would mean most of the FUSA Sportbike racers, plus even some of us AM racers could have qualified if strickly by time.

So why don't more people try to qualify? If they would give me a license next year, I would stay around and try to qualify for the race

Without the use of "Qualifying" tires this year the qualifying pace is almost 2 secs slower than last year. Now everyone uses the same tires for qualifying as they do for racing. This has closed the times up this year.  Also, just because you can qual within the 112% doesn't mean you get in the field. They determine how many people they will let grid for the race, then take the fasted ones. :(

I almost forgot to tell you...  I ran up in VIR with your buddies this past weekend while you were getting rained on in Daytona. My doc didn't clear me to race till it was too late to go to daytona, so........ I went up to VIR to do some testing and get "back into the groove".  My little brother used my racebike to take the ART basic. He went really fast for the first time on the track. The instructors were very good and taught him alot.  A couple of them took him out 1 on 1 and let hime pass people all over the track. ;D He is looking for a race bike now ;D I did make a point to tell Linda, Mike, and the whole crew what an excellent job I think they did. That was the best track day I have ever seen run. Plus, I got to dice it up with the instructors too...  we all had a great time ;D

Hey Trey Where were you pitted at? I was on the R6, #72 and was coaching, I was pitted at that big green piece of crap horse trailer.

I was right across from the bathroom.  No canopy and the bike looked like this

Sunday afternoon was a great day. It is so nice when your not hurrying to get your leathers off because of the heat ;D

Expense.  They aren't going to follow the series, can't take two weeks off of work.  Are those excuses?

On another note...

Years ago, there were over 100 riders trying to get into the 80 spots available.  If only 47 made it...  And a 2:06 is a ways off from being competitve.  In ten laps, that rider might get used as a berm.

I suppose people don't always look at it like I do, I race for pure fullfillment and enjoyment. So being able to race more is a plus all in itself. I would have stayed an extra week if I were to try to qualify for it. So maybe next year I can run sub-2 minute, and I will stay and qualify. If I make the race, then I would have a good time. I take racing seriously, but that seriously in that way :) Serious to committed to race well, but not serious to even think about doing it "professionally" as in making a living with it. All for personal fullfillment...

Hey Trey, I heard you were up there and had a good time. Thanks for all the compliments to the club, we all appreciate it. We try really hard to run it different than everyone else, and its nice to see people agree :) Did you win free gas or something? That was my idea  ;D to get people register early and show up at riders meeting, plus give back a little and make the morning fun.

You will be at Roebling? I will sure to come and say hi, and maybe you can give me some pointers with the track. I missed dicing with Bart, and perhaps you at VIR, I love that track, but love racing just a tad more  ;)

Hope you will come to more events in the future, always good to have you. and show us up on the SV hehe

What lap times are all doing?

Unfortunalty I didn't win shiznit :( but thats OK :-/.  I will be at Roebling for sure. I am leaving Thursday after work. ( only 3.5 hours drive for me ) I will be doing the trackday on Friday. I mean whynot, it's free for me:)  I won a free trackday at Roebling last year in a raffle at the Pit Stud contest in VIR. Hell I won a bunch of shiznit that night ;D Trackday, assembly lube, bear kuzi's, and a tsubaki gold chain..
As far as times go at VIR...  it was only in the 50's on sunday so the track was not as grippy as on a nice warm day. Bart and I were doing 42's but i was only running a relaxed pace.  Race pace should be in the 39's

Well let me remember that you have won enough so we wont give you nothing more  :P

So Bart and you were showing off huh?? did you get to ride with Glen when he was riding 2 up? I think he was doing around that lap time 2 up...

My goal is do a 35 by the end of the this year on my 600. I see I better get to work... I am going to try to make that practice day, but I have to drive 700 miles, that means I have to leave bright and early on Thurs. I will let ya know, maybe we pit together...

let the drinking start... its been too long. sucks that you can't hang out at Daytona
