Title: 848
Post by: firebolt on January 16, 2008, 07:20:18 PM
I probably missed the post. But is the 848 Ducati eligible for the AMA FX class? Regards, Dan

Yep.

And all CCS Middleweight classes, including Supersport.

and $750 per win of contingency for CCS MWSB.

So, I didn't see anything that said middleweight rules were changing in anything from CCS.  Twins are limited to 800cc's in Middleweight Supersport, and with 4 valves per cylinder up to 800cc's in Middleweight Superbike.

Super Dave, page 5 of the Spring Mailer has listed the proposal of allowing 850cc, liquid cooled twins in the MW classes listed as Accepted.

Yeah, sound like it's restricted in "C" classes in WERA.  Cost of admission is high.  Will still require someone to ride it.

We're thinking 'bout putting Ackerman on one to see if it really can go 'round a race track... hmmm

Im pretty sure Sean said no C supersport though.

Yeah there is an active post on there now where Sean said he is going to allow it in C superbike.

850cc = middleweight :err:

I don't understand how the 848 is a middleweight. It's displaces 40% more than a 600 and makes power comparable to a GSX-R750.

But whatever, we'll get em in the whoops!!

So it claims to make 134hp. In the real world I bet its just under 120 at the rear wheel which is much less than a GXR 750 and only slightly more than a SS legal 636. Considering the price of entry I doubt we'll even see one on the track much less winning anything. I think it'd be a great street bike though. Like my RC but 60 lbs lighter.

You are partially right, had mine on the dyno yesterday and it made 117 hp, for the rest check my signature.....

Sounds very interesting - Presented the right opportunity - I wouldn't mind riding one.... Is the contingency money paid at each and every event or only select events????

Pretty good.  What fuel?  First runs?  I'm betting it's about stock?

I made 115 to 119 with hot fuel at the end of the year on the SV1000.

stock. The contingency pays every race, but it pays in certs only good for Ducati parts and accessories and labor. When I raced an SV 1000 a couple years ago I recall my straightaway speed being pretty close to an average 600.
Title: Re: 848

I couldn't keep up with 600's in a straight line.  Well, the one's that I wanted to.

What fairing did you use on your SV1000?
Title: Re: 848
Post by: ahastings on January 19, 2008, 09:38:17 AM
I used hotbodies SV fairing back then, but also that was back in 2004 and 2005. I  think the newer 600s were faster and the ones now are even faster.
Title: Re: 848
Post by: Super Dave on January 19, 2008, 09:51:43 AM
Ok, I had an SV styled fairing too.  I was wondering if the GSXR fairing with the ram air holes moved some more air in toward the air box.  If I were going to do it a second time, I would do that.

Arnie,
Keep us posted. It's a very exciting bike... I'm just glad your not in the mid west. I'm guessing it's stock. I'd be interested to see what potential can be uncorked. I like to see some non-jap bikes competing. Good luck.

117 at the wheel according to ahastings and probably what, 60-65 lbs/ft of torque?
Very close to a stock GSX-R750, which makes about 125/52, and no where near a stock 600 at about 105/43.

This thing is gonna come out of the crate faster than a heavily modified 600.

I think it looks like an awesome bike, but it's no middleweight.

There will be at least one running ASRA and some CCS GP rounds, we have the bike being race-prepped in our shop right now.

I agree! sweet bike, I'd love to have one but... not a middleweight. better suited for heavyweight
btw- my 06 r6 only made 115 hp on U4 112hp on pump gas

Sweet bike for sure! I'm surprised it's not getting more press. And, I'm not trying to put the 848 down. I'm just anxious to see it perform. So the speculation goes on... 600's in SS are puting out over 110 hp. I wonder if the 848, when equally uncorked, will be that much more competitive in the middleweight classes - especially superbike where 600's are at or near 120hp. (Nobody ever rides their superbike in supersport, that would be unsportsman-like). All my speculation is really a thin mask for my envy. I'd like to see more Euro bikes competing.

We're sure the 848 is fast enough for MW battle, it simply needs a rider who can ride a twin well. Those things don't rev like 600 I4's do.  It will be very cool to have some twins mixed in with the screaming 4's. It should make the class grow and add some variety.  :thumb:

I'm seriously considering one for next year - 09.  I grew up riding twins and current have a couple of ducs now but race a I-4.  I do miss riding a twin...

+1, but for this season. If I didn't have so much invested in my 749R, it would be nearly a done deal.

There is a write up on it in pretty much every motorcycle magazine on the market this month .
I rode mine for the first time Monday at Roebling. I think it will do well if I can ride it right. Top speed seemed pretty close to the 600s.
