Title: 190 rear on a 600????
Post by: EASLEY419 on January 15, 2008, 03:19:58 PM
Do any of you guys run a 190 rear on a 600? Or have you tried it?  I was thinking about trying it and wanted to see what your opion is and if there is any benefit.

depends on tire brand you use
domloup has a 190 55 i believe it is and fits on a 600 rim correctly and pirelli only has the 190 60 i think thats the size nut its for a 1000 rim
donloup says theres fits and pirelli doesn't recommend it but people run them

We've done it since 2003 with Michelin's.  Some like it some don't.  Can require a different chassis set up depending upon the aspect ratio of the rear that you use.  Some of the 190's currently available are really tall compared to the 180, and one would expect to need the fork extenders to do it.  Consult your chassis guy about it.

Mine is having a seminar next weekend.

There are some ideas that the mass of that kind of tire is too hard for a 600 or a 750 to move forward to make up for the possible side grip advantage.

This past season was the first year I ran a 190 on a 600.... It did require a different set up and it worked better at some tracks then others.... I can say that with the 190 the bike did tend to push the front end a bit - even after changing the chassis set up - especially in the middle of turns when you start to open the throttle.... But once you get used to changing your riding style a bit - you can achieve greater lean angles while opening the throttle harder/sooner.... At some tracks I did decide to run the 180 instead of the 190 - and your results may vary depending on tire brand - bike brand - chassis setup and so on....

Hey I am going to be pitted with Speedwerks for the Daytona weekend.  Steve, Trotter and I are flying up on Wednesday night.  Are you riding with Brian?  If so I am sure that I will see ya there.

i use a 190 dot dunlop and a 195 slick and i love them both, greater lean angles with more rubber on the ground, going from left to right is a litter harder and slower but i dont have any problem
this is on a kawasaki 600

I'll be there - Brian and I are running the 87 bike together.... Look forward to seeing everyone there...
