Title: MA TBD any ETA?
Post by: Z-man on January 10, 2008, 11:50:31 AM
Just curious if there is any type of ETA of when we can expect to get a finalization of the TBD's on the Mid-Atlantic schedule?  My race schedule for next year kind of is dependant on the outcome and Daytona is only a month and a half away.

Thank you
Z

If it isn't Shenandoah sign me up for Daytona.

I say Roebling. Let's change things up a bit.

Here is another vote for Beaver Run.

The schedule in the mailer has no TBD on it anymore, so correct no Roebling due to schedule conflict nor a Shenandoah.

Beaver Run has noise restrictions that prevent us from scheduleing a race. New Jersey Motorsports Park is not functioning yet so not in 2008 but it is on the radar for 2009 as are several other tracks that have firm commitments of funding or construction occuring already.

As an FYI Jeanne, our webmistress, has to create the nice searchable calender that is posted here (http://www.ccsracing.us/schedules/2008/schedule.html) from the dates listed here. (http://www.ccsracing.us/schedules/2008/2008%20asra%20ccs%20schedule.pdf) It takes alittle bit to make the changes/corrections to the website version for the functions it has.

Why would Shenandoah being on the schedule keep you from going to Daytona? At least Shenandoah is actually  in the MidAtlantic region of the USA unlike Daytona.

CCS could race at Beaver Run...Track Day orgs do tons of days at the Beaver and WERA races there 2 x a year....all CCS has to do is BOOK THE DATES!!!!

They don't have the large Buell contingent that CCS has.

And run the risk of having event shut down by local authorities? Not a risk that we are willing to take, maybe the size or number of races there is what has kept the authorites from enforcing ordinances, we don't know.

Are you willing to drive there and be fined, thrown out of facilty or prevented from racing for a rule/law that even a stock exhaust bike cannot meet?

OK....I will continue to race there.  I think the Buells are what prevents it.  Just saying, we have been going there since 2003.

we have been at beaverun when wera, the skid pad, and the cart track were all in full force. never an issue. i don't think there would be any problems with ccs running there event. the track and facilities are great.

book it!!!

Or how about CMP. That is truly a MA track. Mid-Ohio is more north track. (Meaning a long ass drive for me!) :)

2 rounds at CMP  they dont get a good turn out at 1 i guess thats why they made it double points this season
i would try to make 2 rounds there its a good track

Yeah bring a genny. They are building garages but @ $200 a pop for the weekend it may be a no-go unless we figure on how big they are and plan on sharing with a couple of other racers AKA Daytoner. I hear the new track management is trying to make it a better place for us motorcycle racers but I think they have a long way to go.

Simple, I don't think Shenandoah is safe, I won't race there.  If I'm missing two races already why bother driving 20 hours for a race WAY outside the mid atlantic and spend all the money it costs to go to Daytona.  Since we are just finding out now, I'm probably still going to miss Daytona, but assuming my finances are in order (aka I have enough credit) I'm going to try to race the rest of the series.

Z,

i feel the same way. i won't race at shenandoah. of course nelson is a problem also so i try to do a little of both wera and ccs. doing that doesn't really help to chase points.

You don't think Shenandoah is safe, but Daytona is, that is interesting. Missing a couple rounds for points isn't a big deal, I skipped Daytona(double points), Barber(twin sprints) , and Roebling last year and still did pretty well in points. Hardly anybody does all the rounds.

Didn't say I thought that Daytona was safe, it is what it is and we go there once, it is a huge event with a big turnout.  Shenadoah has two events and has had an extremely low turnout at a track that traditionally has one of the highest turnouts in the mid atlantic.  If no one is going, it isn't safe, then why race there?  Anyway, it isn't on the schedule this year so I'm off my Shenandoah soap box.

See you out there.

Oh, I get it, you will race at an unsafe track if it is a big event with a big turnout, but not a small event with low turnout. I agree Shenny isn't that great of a track to race on, but not for safety reasons. It is not any more unsafe than most of the  tracks we race on. I have raced there 4 times and within 1 second of the lap record, so I do have a little experience there. Even the fastest turn on the track -turn 1- pales in comparison to the speeds you will be running at Daytona approaching the walls.
Don't get me wrong, I am not dissapointed that it is off the schedule, but that is because it is not a good track to race on, it is too tight with limited passing opportunites, and not enough people show up to pay contingencies in a lot of classes. Plus it is 2 less rounds in an already busy Mid-Atlantic schedule. The unfortunate thing is now it will be harder to do well in points without running the southeast rounds(Daytona and Barber) that pay Mid-Atlantic points.

Please don't put words in my mouth.  While I didn't say Daytona was safe I also did not say that I felt it was unsafe.  You need to chose your battles and I do not have feelings one way or another about Daytona, so why would I fight Daytona.  Perhaps if I had had a low speed crash at Daytona and been lucky enough to get my body turned before going head first into the wall, I would feel differently like what happened to me at Shenandoah.

The reason the number of participants matter is simple, CCS is running a business and at their busiest track they can't fill 10 people in a amatuer middleweight race.  CCS can't be making money, most everyone doesn't want to race there.  Why on earth is CCS racing there?  Obviously the consumer is speaking loudly, when on the main they have to turn people away on a good weekend.   So the number of people is only relavent to the business side of CCS and potentially lost revenue or lost racers, I know a few guys who left because of Shenadoah and now race WERA.  You can't please everyone but you gotta try to please some or maybe even most.

This is my last post on the topic, the track is not on the schedule so I don't feel the need to fight anymore

Sorry, but this is not a valid reason for not racing there.  I have ridden at sold out track days there, and in the 40 or so times that I have ridden and/or raced there noise has never been an issue.  I have seen Buels, Ducatis, all Japanese bikes, plus many others, and have seen just about every type of aftermarket exhaust used there.  Cars race there.  They have police training AT NIGHT WITH DYNAMITE EXPLOSIONS!  Not to mention the autocross (I heard the loudest caddilac of my life there-it was louder than a homstead unlimited gp race) 2 stroke go carts, rally, etc.  Noise is definatly not an issue there.  I live 45 minutes from the track, and have never heard of one single problem.

BTW, i think that the final MA schedule is a good one.  I just wish that Beaverun was added to it.
