Title: buy your duck tape now
Post by: mj on February 13, 2003, 07:17:37 AM
Americans in their typical panic mode are buying duct tape faster than in can be put on the shelves.

As we all know, you can't race without duct tape.

What next !!!!    ;D

Any perso who believes thay can seal their house air tight with plastic sheeting and duct tape should be offered ocean front property here in Iowa.  I think the government just wanted to give people something to do so they feel somewhat prepared for the possibility of another terrorist attack.

Is it "Duck" tape or "Duct" tape?

The US Army during WW2 put out a spec for a waterproof tape that soldiers could use to seal plastic bags with their ammunition and supplies.  The tape that was selected for the contract was made by Johnson and Johnson.  The soldiers started calling it "Duck" tape since it was meant to keep out the water.

However, after the war HVAC contractors started using the stuff to seal duct work.  Johnson and Johnson changed the color from Army Green to Sheet Grey, and thus "Duct" tape was born.

So, either is correct :D
