For anyone who is interested, the Kenosa-Racine bike club is having their annual ride on Sat May 19th. I am planning on riding (although I tend not to ride in the rain). I live 2 blocks from the high school. If anyone is interested we could meet at my house. The rides are 10, 25, 44, 65(100km), and 100 miles. I will be doing the 44 mile ride. Cost is $30.

Not mile, METER. :biggrin: Last time I was on my mountainbike my knees felt like giving out completely after 1 1/2 mile. It may have something to do with the clipless pedals cleats may have moved a tick or my knees just cant handle it anymore (arthritis).
Funny thing was back in my sophmore and senior year my plans were to do RAAM after HS. THen I ended up racing cars after HS and not bicycles. Used to leave at 6am and not come home until 4-5pm nearly every day during summer months when school was out. Doing 200+ mile days werent uncommon. Amazing what you could do when you are a kid isnt it? :lmao:
Get yourself a clipless system that floats. There are several systems that allow about 10 or 15 degrees of float so that your knees don't get bound up.
Its a Shimano MTB dual side pedal. It has some float. I rode it when I got it a ways without issue. Thinking its just my knees. Similar problem with my martial arts. They got new mats, I have problems doing any kind of spin kick on the new mats since they are grabby. After 5 yrs of just letting your foot spin flat footed, its hard to get in the habit of lifting foot, planting foot and kicking. I need to get back into martial arts again soon. I was ->||<- close to getting my black belt when I stopped for a break (and just never got back).

I was planning on riding at about 15 mph, leaving around 9 or 10 am. So should be about 3 hours of riding plus stops at rest stops. Last year they had one rest area at a nearby park. They then had several loops leaving and returning to the park. The length of the ride determined how many loops one rode.
Rob, you can get full floating pedals, take a look at Speedplay pedals, frogs are their MTB pedals.

+1 on the speedplays. I still use my 20 year old Times but the Speedplays are great. double sided entry and VERY thin cleats, easier walking. If their like the road models the wear items are all in the cleat.

Would have to remember my drool cup. A woman in one of my physics classes has a Waterford (with Campagnolo of course).

I've been out of the loop for about 10 years so I wouldn't know if they've gotten their act together lately but when I last bought, the Shimano stuff was actually better than the Campy. My brother and I used to race years ago and he had to get the Campy for the aesthetics. I went Shimano and He's had the thing into the shop for adjustments so many times it's not funny. Several years back we went to San Francisco to ride some of the stuff I used to do when I lived out there. On the first ride of the vacation he shifted into first and the derailure overshifted and exploded in the rear wheel, we had to go rent a bike for him to ride. In 15 years I've replaced one rear derailure for worn pivots and the BB for eating the cage that holds the bearings. Seemed like back then Shimano did all the innovating and Campy would add it into the next release. Campy does have the bling factor though.
Might be nice to see the Waterfords though. Heard of them but don't really know anything about them.
I have some Campy (Chorus and Record) on my bike. No problems in over 800 miles. Best feature is that the brake/shifters can be rebuilt, current Shimano cannot.
High bling factor with the carbon brake levers.
My brother and i both bought our current bikes (actually I bought both of them) in the early 90's. I went with the Shimano STI and he went Campy Ergo, first generation for each company. The Shimano rear was capable of full power shifts up or down the Campy was not, Campy incorporated the ramped cogs a year or two later. The Shimano had the dual pivot brake calipers again Campy was a year or so in arrears, You should ask my brother about a certain curve in the mountain village of Tuyo Spain. Finally for some reason no one has never been able to get the rear of his bike to shift properly in 15 years. Again, I haven't looked at equipment, aside from the rear derailure I replaced at about 15,000 miles, since I bought my bike so it's very possible that Campy has gotten themselves back in the game. I would probably have bought Suntour before Shimano 25 years ago too, the only thing that remains the same is change. :biggrin:
I would be all about the 100 mile one. But unfortunately I will be in CA. Who is doing the charity ride at Elk Hart in a couple months?
