Title: Brake Lever Guard ( need some help )
Post by: REM6a on February 24, 2007, 03:32:32 PM
After watching the MotoGP wreck and some youtube video of people getting smashed in holeshots from bikes hitting the front brake. I decided to try making a brake guard.
Can anyone point me in a direction of where to start.
I was going to use an aluminum bark buster off a dirt bike but thought that might be a little dangerous.

Any input would be greatly appreciated.
Thanks,
Ryan M

that would be tough. whatever you make it out of should be able to hold up without coming back and squashing your fingers if you have ahold of the bar when you touch down hard.
post pics of whatever you come up with.

Already done, but you may not know about it.

From Ed Bargy's site (http://www.edbargyracingschool.com/guardian.htm).  He's a bright guy.

Nice, that is exactly what I was looking for.

thanks Dave!  Have you ever tried that or heard how it worked from someone who has?

Haven't, but I do know Ed.  Bright guy.  Thinks things through, so I'm betting that it would work out pretty well.

I have had one on my bike for two years now. I have been lucky and haven't had to make sue of it, bu tit has been there just in case.

it hasn't caused me any trouble and if it needs to it will move out of the way. I think it's a kewl idea. He started getting his plan together after that spectacular Ducati yard sale on the start a couple of years ago when Rapp went flipping.

another idea is to not fully tighten the control lever mounts. that way if they get hit or you go down they have a little play to move up or down rather than snap off.
