Title: Unclear on the concept!
Post by: HAWK on December 12, 2006, 12:28:39 AM
OK, We all know that there are inherent risks in motorcycle racing but the enjoyment we derive from it SOOOOO outweighs the daner that we cn't possible dream of not doing it.

No, that didn't happen on the race track, that happened at work Nov 28th.  Let this be a warning to all you wreckless motorcycle racers, racing IS in fact going to kill you, just not the the way you think. I was working a day of overtime to help pay for that  last set of tires when someone one decided that it was time to push the 747 that my ladder was leaning up against out of the hanger. With nothing left to lean on, my ladder and I fell 15' to the hanger floor.

Don't ever forget that going to work tomorrow could cost you your life, live everyday like it was your last, if just might be!

Back row, Andy Adler, Robert Onley, Mitch Goldman, Front row Hawk after run in wih Boeing 747.

Paul, I didn't know you had a Teddy Bear fetish.... :jerkoff:

Methinks there may be a settlement in your future.  Glad you survived.  You and I have unfinished business....

Hi Paul, I hope you get better quick!!!

I'm sharing a game with you to beat any boredom you may have. It's a silly little game, but neat.  :thumb:

WHEELERS (http://gamerfx.net/freeuse/mgames/index.php?act=play&id=20353)

if you click on the 'play more games' button, you will find a few more moto racing games. Have Fun!!

And Paul, if you couldn't race next season (for your recovery), us cornerworkers would gladly welcome you.  8)

Let's take a closer look...a Faster DVD, Rossi book, I think I see a Roadracing World mag under there, no bed pan in sight...the green teddy bear is a little disconcerting but I think you're gonna be all right.
Heal up quick!

Dude! Start wearing your leathers and helmet at work!

I guess you won't be returning the message I left for you this morning. Heal up, and keep that wry perspective on life!

Oh, and watch out for the Andy Adler guy...he's a bad influence! (j/k, I love that guy.)

It would be a mistake to say you guys have no idea how great it feels to come back to the board and find all these get well wishes from your friends, I suspect you've all been there to.  It's just great to be a part of this community. I WILL be back, just not sure how soon.

OK now for that list,

plate and 7 screws in left wrist (note to ED, all ti)
left calf 6 inch tear
fractured transverse process on C7 and T1 vertibrae
more bruised ribs than I can count but with the pain killers they are giving me that may not be too many
and back spasms galore.

My advice to all of you is to call in sick often and tell them it is preventitive medicine. :thumb:

HOLY CRAP!  Lordy, Paul, that grocery list of yours is no joke.  About the only injury you missed is a torn A-hole.  :ass:  Supplied with a home address, I could maybe go see how the guy who moved the plane is dealing with his guilt issues....

ROTFLMAO good thing I got good pain meds or that would REALLY hurt. BTW the paramedics checked the A-hole, they didn't want to miss anything. :wtf:

Seriously though, the first thing anyone heard me say was "I'm going to kill the f***ing a****le that pushed that plane but 2 weeks later I realize that the only thing that would get me is a week in the cardiac unit for high blood pressure. Next week they are sending me in for some full body scan, I have no idea what that is but I sure hope it doesn't find anything else they need to fix.

I'm going to get the 08 rule change petitions off to an early start, I say CCS institute a new rule that says no racer can hold a full time job outside of the racing community, it is just too dangerous.

God I love being part of this group.

And K3, if you want to do something for me, Talk to our friend Xian and let's do dinner at Lou Malnattis. I know he went through worse and I'm going to need help like that getting up to speed next year.

Save that plate. When you get it removed we can make an SV dogbone out of it!

Good luck with your recovery, I hope it's speedy. If you don't already have some try Super Dave's bone mender supplement. Bartz swears by it.

You won't need help getting back up to speed.  Just come to a track day and chase me some more.  I'll wear my Target shirt.  That's how this whole sickness started for you.  Like I said in the other post, you and I have unfinished business.  Eventually, all my best students are required to reach the point where they can run off and leave me in their dust.  It's how I know I've done right by them.... :thumb:

Paul heel up quick man!! try the bone stuff, it realy does work.  Do you know who the person was that moved the plane?  We are all kinda bored right now, a blanket party could realy liven things up a bit.  Let me know how big the plate is after it comes out,  I will try to machine somthing that fits an SV out of it  :lmao:

Like K3 said you and I have unfinished business as well. You were catching me before that off track excursion at Gingerman, at least that what you said.

Have a Merry Christmas and happy new year and keep us posted on your condition.

I'll be back out next year but not sure when my first race will be. I want to be sure I'm ready so I don't hurt myself. I might have turned a half sec faster lap but I never caught you. Just make sure you bring your "A" motor, no excuses

Title: Re: Unclear on the concept!
Post by: HAWK on December 14, 2006, 04:15:54 AM
Yea you're right Chris, but large doses of vicodine and valium certainly don't hurt (god do I miss that IV dilaudid, that stuff would knock out any pain in about 7 seconds). Unlike just about every other part of my body.

How the hell did Xian and Dano survive? I take my meds, go to bed and 4 hours later wakeup screaming, try to get out of bed and fall down. Of course I've met Xian's nurse :thumb:, that would help a lot.

I just can't get over how great racers are as a group, I'm just sorry as hell it took me 40 years to find you guys.

Hey Hawk, better late than never!

It's funny, because having been involved with costuming for figure skaters, dancers, and others, they don't hold a candle to the camaraderie that this industry has. I was driving to Chicago with a very good costuming client one day, and I started to tell her about the racing community. She was totally blown away. Her daughter competes at a ton of events, and she's never heard of loaning a competitor anything that would give them an fighting chance against you, much less becoming like family. At best, it's "friendly" acquaintances.

I've often said that racing is a selfish sport, but the amazing thing is even though that might be true, that does not mean that the people involved are selfish, quite the opposite. This is the most supportive sport I've had the privilege to be involved with.

Funny you should mention that, I bought my 03 SV rom Rob of lithium at Autobahn and G-REG raced it at Blackhawk before I did. Jeff has always said he would rather loan a competitor a part that gives him the win than see him sit out. and I don't think I've seen anyone that didn't have the time to get a competitor out to the grid. When I autocrossed I can't tell you how many times I was under someone elses car so they could make that last run. It takes a special kind person to be crazy enough (we'll leave Super Dave out of this for now) to come out and endure this kind of fun and and camaradari every weekend but if threre were more of them in the world it would be a much better place.

BTW Jeff, sorry abbout the speling and grammar but the broken arm and the phamacy on my kitchen counter maybe you could give me a bye for a couple weeks :ahhh:

Hawk, if the spelling really bothers you, you can download Firefox 2.0 and it will do spelling corrections much like office does when you use Word.

Otherwise, enjoy what modern medicine has to offer and let the rest of us enjoy your creative literature.

LOL, but it automatically underlines in red anything with a misspelling, so you don't even have to click a spell check button. For instance, I can clearly see that you have misspelled: comming, (2x), imeadiatlyl, valium (missed capitalization), cn and motorskills.

Gotta love modern technology for helping us cope with modern medicine.

Keep taking those meds, we can understand you fine. However, perhaps we can put your posts to good use by allowing elementary schools to use them as a class lesson.

Alexa, when I remember to take the meds (sometimes can't remember my name so there may be some confusion there) you are quite right.

Guy, I'm not sure I can count to 22 let alone 44, 44 is higher than 22 right?

Of course K3 may have a point since today's  trip to the hospital revealed 4 broken ribs, explains all the back pain and spasms in the last 3 weeks.

The next idiot that tells me how crazy I am for doing something as stupid dangerous as racing a motorcycle had better be a marathon runner from Kenya.

Seriously, I can't tell you guys and gals how much you have helped. I've never been part of a group of people that have so much fun (granted sometimes it's at someones expense) but everybody I know outside CCS has seen a big imporvement in my spirits and its got a lot to do with the support of friends like you. :thumb:

Hell yes it's dangerous, just not as dangerous as my 9-5 :wtf:

No, I wasn't taking the whie plates before this, I'm not comfortable enough wwith my passing to dice it up with the experts and as long as I'm yellow I can at least hope the experts will cut me a little slack  on the way by. Yellow plater takes us both out and i'm not going to be happy but if I take the bump and take out a white plater who expects more from me then I'm gonna feel petty bad. Hell I've only got 5 race weekends unless you want to count the 2 lap crash & dash in may :banghead:

OK, where do we start....

Actually Alexa I have often heard that you pass out from fear  before landing. Now that I have first hand knowledge I can say that the landing did not hurt, it was the waking up after the landing that hurt like HELL, seriously, I was out 5 feet before I hit the floor and according to the guys that saw it I was out for bout 30 seconds before I started making really bad sounds.

Since the vicodine and valium weren't doin the job for pain they sent me to a pain managemnent doctor today who put me on some meds that while not as mind altering as vicodine and valium are doing much better on the pain. I learned something very interesting fromm this doctor though.  When I broke my ankle in May I was a little worried about the pain I would have in the July Gingerman race. This pain specialist told me that addictive behaviours (motorcycle racing came to mind) cause the body to make pain killers far more powerful than any of us are ever likely to get our hands on. Since I'm not likely to get backout on the track in the next few days I'm going to have to have to get mine through you guys so get out there and ride!

I believe the chemical he was talking about is called dopamine, and it's pretty effective stuff.  I'll never forget the day I wheelied, landed rough, and relocated my dislocated shoulder.  I thought I was going to die from the pain, but somehow I managed to hold onto the bike.  The big question that day would have been "What the hell was I doing out there racing injured in the first place?"  Just trying to score a buzz, I guess.
Hey Paul?  I'm confused.  You state that you can't ride right now, so you want us guys to go make dopamine for you.  Exactly HOW do you plan on extracting and ingesting it?   :jerkoff:   :ahhh:

I suppose that would be an option but I was thinking I would just continue to sit here at the computer and let all you dopamine loaded guys keep joking and humoring me into a survivable existance. Oh and by the way, if any of you get a little too loaded on dopamine how about sending some of it in Bill directions.  I'd really like to see you guys make him  and Claudia feel as much  better as you've made me feel in the last couple days.

Hey Paul,

Real sorry to hear of your injuries. You should try staying on the inside of the plane from now on. Safest way to travel they say. Looks like you're in good hands.
Looks like your mustache has gotten a tad gray since I last saw you.
I hope you heal quickly and if all else fails, by opening day, you can join the CW's. It's a blast.

Heal quickly Paul.  :thumb:

Thanks Mike, I've never felt like I've had such a great bunch of friends as I have since this happened. I've always known that the racing community was one of the best bunches of people on the planet but this just confirms it.

Friction makes things warmer.  Cold is usually caused by lack of attention.   :wah:

I believe we crossed that line 2 pages back. And while I am on enough drugs to cause clear thought to be an impossible concept I think K3 gets more attention than anyone else on this board. I would have to admit that it may not all be exactly what he wants.
