Gingerman is my track! I Love that track. I wish we raced at Grattan as well, I like that track even more.

Mark is just mad he isn't an amatuer anymore and we as amatuers come around him like hell on fire the 3rd or 4th lap.

Yes Alexa, change it to the "OFFICIAL" Gingerman trash talk thread.

Thanks

Gingerman is my track!

Sorry Nick. Gingerman is Brian Lacy's track. He literally owns the place.

Even though it'll be his first weekend back since getting run over by a Buell (not mine) in July, and he'll be sore as hell, he'll likely run rings around the rest of us.

As Ed sez... "Brian has an unholy relationship with Gingerman."

Yea, I heard about last year when he brought his secret Italian Nuclear Misslile out from under the tarp and handed it to Mr. Key.

Thats cool though. I love this sport, it's all about the competition. The time will come next year when I am preregistered and have white plates and I'll give Mr. Lacy a run for his money at the G-MAN.

I'll be at the back of amatuer grid next Sunday with fire in my eyes hunting the rare animals they call "Bartz". The animal is so rare Grasshoppers are only allowd by slowass financing to hunt them a couple times a year.

I just hope it doesn't rain.

Paul, Johnny Sheff and I will all be there.  Whether we give Guy, Nick any competition is another matter entirely.  I think my strategy is to let you guys tire/tie yourselves up and possibly ride to victory while you finish your agricultural excursions on the wet grass.  But wait - This sounds strikingly familiar - Oh yes, I was the one picking myself up while the rest of you coasted by during the GT lights monsoon race!!

OK - you can count me in.  The Duc got back from the shop last night.  We are ready to steam roll all you LW guys from the back of the grid (again).

Nick - are you sure you can stay in front of me if we both start from the back of the grid?  A few more laps in the GT Lights race at BHF and I would have caught you...  If it had not been for your front row start we may have actually had a race!

Hey George! I love it man, I love it! I look forward to stomping I mean racing against you. Being you are on the cheater 100hp Pasta Rocket I shouldn't have a fighting chance.

Prepare to rub elbows my friend. Just for you I will keep the same tires as last weekend on the bike. I will write George Linhart on the the out side of each tire and slowly watch the writing and you disappear behind me.  :ass:

Dan probably would have been gone though. He went soil sampling on the first lap on the outside of turn 4. I dove under Ryan somewhere around half way through the race. That was fun, first race I ever won. Both those guys were like "who in the hell are you and where did you come from?"

I have never been to the track before.  So, to give you all a fighting chance and in the interest of keeping it interesting I am not doing the Saturday LP practice.  I am going to have to figure the track out in the GT practice session on saturday afternoon and whatever I don't get by the end of practice I'll figure out in the GT Lights race.

Actually, our little one is a little under the weather and I'm already well into the red-line and I am bumping the rev limiter of the spousal consent meter (damn it, not much over-rev capability there either).  We are going to leave for the track saturday morning after breakfast to get there and register for GT Lights, LW GP, LW SB and Thunderbike.

Don't say I have not given you every possible chance - I'm starting from the back of the grid at a track I've never seen before.

Where are all the LW guys pitting?  We will try and park somewhere in the area if we can find space.

George

I have found that cooking dinner a few nights an easy way to recaliberate the consent meter.  If it is seriously out of cal, try a really nice dinner at an outragiously over priced bistro.  Ed and I should be along the gaurd rail as near as we can get to the pitout.  I was on the fence about the LP practice, but now I have to go.  I will just start practicing all of the reasons for my poor performance

1) My setup just wasn't right for the track.
2) The sun was in my eyes.
3) I lost a contact.
4) My cat died yesterday.
5) I was thinking about Jennifer Aniston.

Yea, my wife went and got him from the Hospital last year that day when he crashed at Gingerman. He kept calling the track and having people paged over the intercomm to come get him. He page Kim like 30 times, then he was having me and Rachel and who know who else paged. Rachel finally jumped in Kimmies car and went and got him, he was starving to death and wanted to try and get another race in. He was pissed.

Well, I'm still carrying the Hawk around on my back but at least now I doing it on a 2nd Gen SV. Gotta get a better sling though, the peg keeps digging into my back on left turns.

Chasing Nick was a lot of fun, I took almost 2 seconds off my laptime trying to catch him in LWSB until I decided on the white flag lap to take the scenic route through 6. Only cost me 1 position and a pair of shorts. Nice riding with you Nick, see you next year.

reason #6)  I high sided in turn 4

LOL

Dave S (mille AM 115) got a birds eye view.  I understand he was right behind me.  I can tell you what it looked like from my perspective.  got her into the apex, gently started my roll on, felt the back end start move, started to pick the bike up to hook it up, still coming out....  ease out of the throttle.... still coming around.  Now realize I am in serious trouble as I am now going absolutely sideways down the track.  I am now thinking about how much this is going to hurt as I am catapulted over my bike.  I heard that my feet were just about the same height as my bike, and I started running through the air, landing on my feet, and then Ground sky ground sky ground sky ground sky....  Bike hits me, Ground sky ground sky ground sky ground sky...I tumbled forever, I was at the entrance of the next turn before I stopped.  I stood up, and everything seemed ok I could walk but I knew I was going to be sore.  I had a large hole (big enough to put my fist through) in my leathers on my left knee above the padding in that flexible wrinkle leather.  Go to the ambulance take my gear off to find I have a silver dollar sized hole in my knee, down to the kneecap.  It looked really freaky we were all playing with it moving it around and stuff.

I hopped in Ed's wife's car and drive to the hospital, get stitched up and leave.  I was trashed, all of the adrenalin had worn off and I was sacked out.  I then ran a red light and got into a car accident!!!  Life could not have been much worse at that point.  I looked up saw a green light, but I was back from the intersection.  I started to look for street signs to find my way back to the track.  In that amount of time the light must have changed, and some one was fast on the light...  T-boned him.

Your Future Potato head Winner

Guy, I can honestly say that your bike got my attention faster than any yellow flag I've ever seen! I was about the third bike back setting up for an outside pass through 5 when my intended victim moved left much earlier than expected and at close to triple digit speeds I was confronted by you and your bike. Good color choice but this winter teach the seat cowl to wave when in the racing line:biggrin:

Seems Grasshopper backed his loud talk this weekend.  Nice work boy! :thumb:

Except for in Unlimited GP. I wanted to try my hand in the only money race in CCS, which sucks in my opinion, they should have a money race in LW, MW, and Unlimited in my opinion. Anyway, that was a bad decision, I should have raced Supertwins instead of that. I ended up second to last.

Sorry to hear about your bad luck guy. That sucks man, I feel for you. I also thank you, for you and Ed's advice and support. It means alot.

It was fun racing against everyone, and I'm glad we were all able to keep it clean and safe, thats the most important part.

I look foward to having white plates next year. I need to find 2 to 3 seconds to keep up with Key, Moore, James, Lacy and I know there are some other really good riders. Maybe if I get rid of that 30lb steel subframe I can free a up a pony or 2.

Thanks Guy, I give alot of the credit to the bike, every time I screwed up it seemed to find a way to forgive me. Gingerman is also my favorite track. I can't believe I have to wait 6 months to play with you guys again, I'm already getting the shakes

Yep that was an expensive weekend but probably the best of my racing debut.  Thinking about next year and wondering if I'll still be married.  Spending $11k on two bikes and almost 3K on 4 race weekends is stressful to any marriage.  Going to have to referee a lot of hockey this winter to catch up!!
Thanks to all that helped me start racing:  Hawk, Guy, Ed, Nick, Jim, Jeff, George - you guys rock - and you're not afraid to tell me what to concentrate on to go faster.  Ironically, most of you will be experts next year...

yes it was a pretty safe weekend.  It was probably more dangerous being in the pits being confronted by disgruntled competitors ;)

Will probably only do 8 races weekends next year, the odd track day assuming I sell the 04 R6 (a bad impulse buy - assuming I'd be competitive in MW middle of next season) between now and the first race next year.  The SV will be refreshed, remaining SS legal but with DOT, Slicks tires, and a steering damper.  Will run LWSS, LWSB, Supertwins and Thunderbike (possibly F40LW).

Steve.

Slicks are not allowed in SS. Slicks are over rated. I ran all my races (in the dry) at Blackhawk and Gingerman on a regular pilot power street tire on the back and a PR1 front.

No, I know that slick aren't allowed in SS which is why I was planning on 3 sets of wheels/tires.  I did notice while we were lining up that you were running DOT's.  That's probably a good cost saving idea - at the slow speeds I'm currently running, I probably would not benefit from slick anyway..  Are these 4 classes appropriate for a newbie or should I run something different?

There is no grip difference between the Pirelli slicks and DOTs.  The slicks last longer because they do not tear near the cipes.

Nick - you da man.

Guy - crappy sounding weekend - glad you seem to be in OK spirits.

After I lowsided in turn 10 while trying to run down Julian and Kevin in the GT Lights I thought that was as bad as my weekend could get.  I was wrong.  I believe that my crank ate itself at the end of lap 1 of LW GP.  I was running in 4th place coming out of turn 10 and figuring out how in the heck I was going to catch back up with Nick when all of a sudden the Ducati went bang, crunch, clatter, grind...

I guess its a good thing it was at the last race weekend of this year vs. Road America weekend next year...

I would have stoped and said goodby to everyone but I wasn't in much of a social mood due to the financial implications of this boom.

Oh well, I'll see all of  you next year.

Title: Re: The Official Gingerman Trash Talk Thread

Becuase you cant. The rule was made years and years ago when dot race tires were actually like street tires and far away from slicks. Now dot race tires leave almost identical footprints to slicks in all of the places that matter (i.e. full lean and on the meat for acceleration). Like Guy said the grip level is very similar, but I belive the slicks are superior despite generally not being the tire of choice, seeing that the majority of money races are ss. The thing that I have benifited most from running slicks is generally more available compounds and profiles, though it seems again the dot's are catching up.

ehhhh. Again with the dawn of "new" DOT's they dont work much better in the rain than the slicks. If im not mistaken people used to get away with running them as intermediates like the pilot powers, but now any time your cornering your footprint is almost exactly like a slick. But i suppose if push came to shove I would take the DOTs.

As I said, DOTs are much nicer than slicks when you're at speed down a straight and have to grab the anchors.

So, should I go for DOTs or Intermediate tires (Dunlop Qual, Pilot Powers, Pirelli Supercorsas)?  Next year.  I'm impressed with my Quals which have 4 track days and 4 race weekends.  No real slippage ever -very predictable.  I suspect that the tires aren't limiting my progression to shorter lap times anyway.  I'll be running SS, SB, ST and F40 LW next year.
Title: Re: The Official Gingerman Trash Talk Thread

Its tough to say for sure not knowing your pace. The street tires work really well in the cool weather and you can go plenty fast on them in the dry(i won a race on them in the dry(cold) and it sounds like grasshopper had some sucess on them in the dry). However, they are a bit proned to overheating, as well as giving significantly less feedback than the race tires. A few weekends ago at the wera national I ran the intermediates on a half wet/green track I was able to get within a second or two of my race times but they were inconsistent and I had very little confidence in the sweepers on the front end especially. I would say buy a set of each and try them back to back if possible, then figure out which you like better and if the race tires are worth the money.

On a more serious note.  What is it like to ride the lightweight classes with WERA?  Are the novices there tougher to compete against.  How do you typically finish in a WERA race?  My assumption has always been that the WERA clan has more riders with a greater depth of talent, but I have never raced WERA so I have no real clue.

Hey Guy, the WERA lightweight expert grids are MUCH stronger than the average ccs expert grid. However the Am. grid seems to be a bit weeker especially compared to the core 6 to 8 fast AM guys that we have show up. I went to Barber with both ccs and wera. I was basiclly the second or third fastest am at the ccs race and battling to be the fastest am at the wera race. But it thinned out behind us, a guy who was racing for 4-6 at the ccs weekend was running second in the ss class and got a third in superbike(22 seconds back) at the WERA weekend. But its tough to say for sure, like with CCS there are always more fast mw guys at blackhawk than at most any other track on the circuit, and I would imagine WERA has a track like that as well.

I call bullshit on this statement. Deeper? Maybe. Maybe not. Stronger? MUCH Stronger, you say? Are you kidding!?? How much stronger could a LW expert field get? I'd stack up Ed Key, Brian Lacy, Gary Palmer, Johnny Moore and several other regular CCS LW front runners against any WERA LW grid. Now throw in the extra deep fields found at ASRA/CCS combined events (Nate Kern, Dan Bilansky, Dave Estok, Bryan Bemisderfer, Walt Sipp, etc.). Bullshit, I say.

Well I always assumed the the fella's you have mentioned would be at the top of the heap or we would have seen them winning at Daytona and FUSA events.  Ben does answer most of my question, although the answer was not what I expected.  Mabe I should have known the answer myself.  There are alot of front runners at Daytona from the midwest.  Judging by that we must have a strong region.

Chicagoland area/Midwest is a road racers paradise.

There isn't any other place in the US or possibly the world where you can drive to so many tracks.

I live south of Chicago and have:

Autobahn - 20 minutes away
Blackhawk - 130 miles
Gingerman - 120 miles
Grattan - 200 miles
Road America - 200 miles
Putnam - 120 miles
Gateway - 200 miles

Then theres Mid America, Hearland, Mid Ohio, Beaver Run, Barber.

Freakin Sick how many tracks us midwesterners have.

I'll have white plates next year too, and I don't plan to have much of any down time on 2 wheels. My plan is to at least be able to hang with the fast Lightweight guys. I need 2 seconds to make that happen.

that should make it fun, maybe I'll catch you from the second wave then.   :lmao:

$50 to the air fence fund on that one. Sucka.

Indeed. I realistically expect top ten finishes at the start of next year and top five at the end of it. Then again, with two bikes, proper motor tuning and real suspension, getting good drive off the corners might make things a little better for us. My second year as an expert, I expect Championships.

Tell you what, since the only races we can go at it are combined EX/AM HWSS, GTO, etc, if I pass you, you can donate $50 to the airfence fund and if you finish in the top 5 I'll donate the $50.  sound good?

Too many variables:

1. I could lap you and not finish in the top five.

2. You could pass me (ha) and I may still finish top five.

3. You could pass me and I don't finish in top five.

4. I could lap you and finish in top five.

Ideally, an experiment only contains one variable, though in this case it's a wager. All ya gotta do is get to the flag ahead of me from the second wave. I don't care if it's a racetrack one or both of us has/has not seen before, if the race was restarted, red-flagged of you were upset that your woman wouldn't put out that morning.

Simple - whoever gets to the flag first in a two-wave exert/novice grid pays up.

If this were a scientific experiment, I'd be inclined to agree.  But alas it's a trash talking thread, and I made my initial comment laughing b/c it would be funny if I passed you after your comments on CCS's 600 field.  Yes, if I started on the second wave, giving you a 15+ second head start it would definitely be hard to pass you especially if you finish in the top 5 regularly.  To be truely a fair bet we'd either have to start at the same time, or as I mentioned we could include other factors to equalize things based on certain assumptions, ie ~ "that you are fast".  Either way, I hope you do come out to race with us more next year, the more the merrier.   :thumb:

Actually, I prefer talking shit in situations I know nothing about. :D

I must admit though, that I passed more experts at Gingerman with CCs than I've ever passed over the length of a WERA weekend.

Werd. You know the details; new bike, new boots, new gloves &tc ... yep, fuckin' binned it my first weekend out. That repair put paid to a lot of parts I had coming. Can't complain though, beating up full-on superbikes all year long wasn't too bad.

Remember kids, it's important to fill the fuel tank in the generator before your day begins.

what's the big deal about riding it stock?  I did it all year, and I didn't notice all these "built" superbikes you're talking about.

That's because you don't race WERA. Seth Starnes, Robby Wilkey & Jeff Kovak are running bikes with some serious motor (and suspension).

Oh and before I forget, Robsob doesn't help old ladies cross the street, he runs them over with his scooter.

what, you never race up a class or two?  most of racing is rider ability, not just the bike.

At most places, yes - Grattan and Beaver Run are places I don't believe horsepower is a decisive factor because there aren't so many long flat straights. Nelson, Autobahn, Mid-Ohio and Gingerman on the otherhand, you've got long straights. That extra power is definately worth at least another 10-15mp/h at the brake marker.
