I caught wind of a terrible rumor that Jason went down really hard at HPT last weekend. He's in the hospital with some pretty serious injuries and is awaiting surgury?? Surely someone has better details than I do because have been out of the loop this season, but I wanted to wish him a speedy recovery and I'm sure you all did too so I posted this up.
had to have been on sunday... maybe in the MWGP race? we left saturday late afternoon/early evening. If anyone has info on his condition/location please let me know!
I just got off the phone with Rob Oliva.
In ULGP, Jason Thorson took a terrible fall and sustained a significant head injury. Apparently his skull is broken and there are bone fragments in his brain as well as his sinuses. I don't have any other information, but will be making a separate Wegman post for Jason and Brad...
If I recall, he is at Kansas City University hospital (that may not be correct though)
Like I said I'm out of the loop but I am pretty sure he is admitted at KU Medical Center in Kansas City. That's terrible...I hope he is ok. The post I read over on KCSB said that he was stable.
Sounds like what I heard yesterday.
I asked Rob to make an initial contact with Gordy and the Wegman Fund. Might have to be something the family does, I don't know.
I heard he was pissed he couldn't drive himself to the hospital in Topeka, then Topeka turned around and Lifeflighted him to KU Med.....gotta love Jason's attitude!
Might have been the injury...
But I would like to think that is was his gruff but humorus attitude.
That's just aweful. I'll pray for Him.
I'm goin to HP for practice next weekend. Sounds like when they dumped $15 mil, they didn't dump into safety.
If any of you guys have ridden it since it's been redone, I'd love to know what to look out for...trouble spots.
Thanks.

There are concrete walls everywhere. HOWEVER, the 2 accidents from this weekend are pretty freak in nature. Brad hit the wall in an inexplicable manner/location, and Jason didn't hit the wall at all, but took a knock on the noggin.
Brad may have benefited from a tirewall, but we don't even know whether he was on or off the bike, so for all anyone knows the bike may have caused the damage...
Thoughts and prayers for a complete and speedy recovery.

Damn... this is much worse than we'd thought.
Prayers for Jason, his family and the Lithium crew.
Jason is currently at KU Medical in Kansas City still awaiting surgery. Sounds like they won't do surgery yet today but possibly Tuesday or Wednesday. He is in stable condition and holds brief conversations between napping, so thats a great sign. All of us here at Lithium really appreciate the words of encouragement and concern and will definitly let Jason know of all your support!
thanks for the update Ryan, please call me if there is anything that anyone needs.
We are thinking of you Jason. Take care!

Isn't HPT where John Wascow got hurt a few years ago?
All our info is on the web site to get things rolling for Jason. A family member needs to fill out the application if he's not able. Print it out and have him sign it if he can. Drop it in the mail and we'll have our start.
Other than that we need to know what his most important needs are. If he has good insurance then we can help with other things.
Be sure he contacts CCS for their back up insurance also. Our help, if it's insurance related does not start until all insurance has been paid.
And.....best of luck Jason, heal quick.
Wow, seems like there are alot of injuries this year.
I hope the trend does not continue.
Heal well, heal fast!

Nope. That was gateway.
Hey I'm in Kansas City..........is Jason able to have visitors?
Wishing Jason a full and speedy recovery. If there is anything I can do please let me know. Please keep us posted on his condition Ryan.

Thanks Jeff, couldn't remember. I knew I was at the hospital that evening with him and his brother but just couldn't remember where I was at the time.
Thanks everyone for your support and well wishes. We've been working hard here all day to help make sure Jason's needs here at home are met as he awaits surgery. I know that the people we meet at the racetrack and spend our summers with are our best friends and our summer family. Your kind words, thoughts, and prayers are all greatly needed and appreciated. I will be working with Jeff and Gordie to provide means to assist him financially with his medical costs and hopefully we can help keep some of the financial burdens from becoming too overwhelming. But most of all your sincerity and support will ultimately be his best ally.
Best wishes on your recovery from all of us at team squid racing!
We'll be praying for Jason for sure. I was right behind him. He highsided violently coming out of turn 7 (the fast uphill left hander) When Jason hit the pavement, the bike landed right on top of him. When I looked back, Jason and the bike were still tumbling. It was by far the worst crash I've ever seen. When I came around the next lap, I couldn't believe he was up and walking around. I guess it was the adrenline.
Rob/Ryan, Will you let us know exactly where he is at and when he can have visitors?

To those that dont know Jason he is very cool, and was super nice to me my first time at the track, he deserves all the help he can get. I hope he heals up quick and gets back to carrying Tims weight on the team challenge.

Sorry to read about Jason. I've not met him, but he sounds like a good guy. Carter and I prayed for him last night.
From what I've gathered from the other boards, it sounds like he is going to be OK.
I will donate to Wegman tonight. Wegman helped my brother last year and is a really great organization.
Do you know if Wegman takes paypal?

Is Jason married?
Great news!
very good news!! talked with rob and grant briefly this evening about some of the details about the surgery... he's gonna have REALLY cool scars!!
I cant express how thankful I am that things are looking up! I dont think Jason knows it but he was one of the first people to really help me at the track! Also one of the first people to really make me feel like I was in "the family"
Thanks again to everyone that gave thoughts/prayers/donations.
Tim
oh yeah STLAR meeting just ended, not only did they donate the proceeds from the 50/50, but the winner turned around and gave back his winnings to be donated to the wegman :thumb:

We received the request from Jeff Kufalk
Kufalk Media LLC and have posted our business donation to the Wegman Fund. We wish all the injured riders a speedy recovery.
Also Absolute Cycle Performance will be donating $2 for each Racer invoice to the wegman fund. From this time on. It is a great foundation for Riders in the unfortunate case of an accident. It is important to mention Your are a racer so it gets counted.
Also for Non-Racers we will be donating $1 frome each invoice.

Thanks for stepping up Roy! Glad to see so many people care!
Jason has now been moved out of the ICU. His dad says he is getting mouthy. Sounds like Jason is coming back around!
That's great news Rob, thanks for the update!
Does Jason or Brad have health insurance?
I know that Jason does have insurance through his employer.
Brad is self employed. He is a contractor here in Cedar Rapids. I am not sure about ins for him though.
just for those who might think it, having insurance should not be confused with 'not' having medical (or other) bills...
I have a $2k deductable per person! I can tell you exactly what an ER visit costs with a few x-rays. And it ain't cheap... ugh...
Hey guys, I'm taking some things to Jason tomorrow and thought if you guys want to send him a message I could relay it to him. I've printed off the posts from here up to now for him to read. If you want to send him a message, email it to me and I'll print it off and give it to him. My email is pnther15@peoplepc.com
Jason (and family) really appreciates the love and support you guys are giving. It's incredible! I'm sure when Jason can, he'll get on here and tell you guys.
Thanks
David Daniels
pnther15@peoplepc.com
Brad does have insurance, and it looks like they're picking up some of the cost.
Unfortunately, Brad is still not cooperating with staying calm so they can get the ventilator out. I would like to think it's just his stubbornness, but it's probably partly due to the head injury...... He is probably going to need to be in a skilled nursing facility for about 4-6 weeks after he gets discharged from Kansas City because of the spinal fractures. His insurance will only pay for 30 days of that, so he may need some extra help if he has to stay longer. Then there will be rehab......
Stephanie
Thanks Steph... So what's the latest status? (update Brad's post please)
I would like to thank everyone for their prayers and support. We would not be able to make it through a time like this without ALL of you! You really don't know how good the "racing family" is to have until something like this happens. People I don't even know are praying for my husband and I truly believe it is all of your prayers that are getting us through this. Your support is more than we can ask for and I don't know how we can ever repay you. I don't know if I've ever been so scared as that minute passed when I didn't see him get up. I know the rule...if you're okay, you jump up to let the others know. The ambulance crew did a wonderful job of talking him into riding with them to the hospital (he chose the wrong time to be a tight ass about money.) To update you on his stay in the hospital...he's out of the ICU and is getting better as the hours pass. Today was a really good day...more and more like himself. He is at KU Med Center for a little while longer. We did not get a chance to talk to the doctors tonight so we should know more in the morning about his departure and his length of recovery. I know Jason can't wait to get home so he can get on the computer and let everyone know for himself that he is doing great but for now, the LM Crew is doing a wonderful job of relaying our messages. Thanks Rob, Ryan and Dave!!!
Thanks again to all of you and God bless!!!
Amber Thorson (a.k.a. Jason's Wife)
P.S. I did not hear what happened to Brad and I don't even know if I know him but I know what him and his family are going through and I know our extra prayers for him will mean a lot to them so please let them know they are in our prayers.
Chin up Amber! We're all here to help, and poke fun of Jason until he gets back to his normal goofy self. :-)
Super good news Amber, thanks for the update!
Wonderful news! I know how important getting to a regular room can be. You are all in our hearts and prayers!

I just got off the phone w/ Jason's mom, and she said they just took out his lumbar drain. There is a chance he may go home today? Hopefully~!

Dave
That is awesome news. Thanks for the update!
VERY COOL, I got a call from Amber this morning as well... guess my trip to KC is on standby. Calling again when I am ready to leave to see if anyone will be there.
very good news!
Hi, Jenni here, using Ryan's login to post.
I also talked to Lori (Jason's mom) this morning about the possibility of Jason coming home today. They are all excited to say the least. Going home today will all depend on how his day goes. They all want to be back at home, and who wouldn't want to be. I haven't been able to see him, and I'm looking forward to that first smart remark he gives me too.
I guess what I would like to add to previous posts is that this is exciting but it will also be more stress for everyone watching out for him. I have some expirence with this and going home is wonderful, but also stressful. While at the hospital you know there is someone there to help out when things are not going perfectly. The first few days home, you worry about every little thing. Prayers are what has helped so far, don't stop now! Continued prayers for his safe trip home & for Amber and everyone else helping him at home.
Thanks to all of you for your support, I have been touched too by all of your kind words and acts. They are truely blessed to have your willingness to give of your time and energy to help get through the past week & I know you will continue through his recovery.
May you be blessed in all you do
Jenni Sohn (Ryan's wife, LM group)
i'm sure the toughest thing will be to get him to just sit down and let others do stuff for him. God knows, I suffer from the same thing. I swear that if I could just leave my right wrist alone for 2 weeks, it might actually heal, but NOOOOOO I just *HAVE* to do everything for myself...
Update:
Jason didn't get out yesterday...and it looks like tomorrow is going to be the earliest chance. They took out his lumbar drain and his body isn't regulating the fluid around his brain properly causing bad headaches.
Dave
Sorry to hear that. I guess we'll hope and pray that he gets out today.
hope its soon.
Cowboy the info I got was that he would possibly be getting out late sunday afternoon (once I heard he would still be there afer saturday). Couldnt get on the road till sunday afternoon... if its looking longer maybe we can get up there this weekend!
Jason's on the way home from the hospital!
outstanding news!!!
Woohoo!
great to hear he's on the road to recovery. best wishes and lots of strength and hope!

Got to see Jason and his family on Saturday. Jason has a VERY impressive scar! He won't need to dress up for halloween anymore!! :lmao:
Really I am just very happy you are going to make a full recovery! That crash looked quite scary-I think you were pretty damn lucky all things considered :thumb:
-Nick
Got to visit with Jason for the 1st time since his misfortune. He looked quite well considering the nasty spill he took(just cause he's one tough SOB :finger:) All I can say is GREAT TO HAVE YOU BACK HOME JASON!!!!
Take some pics! LOL...
Thanks to all. It has been a pretty emotional ride here the last ten days or so. I absolutely can not believe the support that has poured out through the racing comunity. All of your thaughts and prayers were greatly appreciated and needed.
I am home now and let me tell you IT FEELS REAL GOOD! Hopefully I will be seeing you all soon. I have had tons of visitors, letters and phone calls, each and every one meaning the world to me.
Thanks Again,
Jason Thorson

Let me know when your gonna be out and about again, cold beers on me!

tim
Glad to hear your home!! And sorry that I didn't make it over there to see you. :banghead: I had a buddy that said he would go with me (see above poster), but something always came up :jerkoff: (j/k tim).
But seriously, I'm glad that you were able to get out reasonably quickly, especially considering what happened. But, I guess you're used to being fast. :thumb:
Glad to see your post. Your an animal, no doubt about that!!
Take care,
Kurt
Jason, you should be ashamed of yourself, falling like that and getting hurt. Do you think Rob NEEDS any more stress in his life? Couldn't you take a minute to think about someone other than yourself?

Heal up bro!
glad to see your home get well soon jason.
I heard Jason went back in to the hospital, is he ok? Keep us posted.
Hi....I am Jason's Mom...aka PictureLadee.....or just Lori. Jason has had somewhat of a relapse. He was pretty sore and we, Amber and I talked him into going to the Dr on Thurs. They admitted him to the hospital in LeMars, Ia. LeMars had him transferred to Sioux City who then air-flighted him to St. Mary's in Rochester, MN. He has some blod clotting happening. We are not sure of anything yet but he has been a sore camper...or should I say biker. He was doing pretty good from the head injury he got June 18 but this is still all part of it. Thought you would all like to know. You are all a great bikin" family. Does anyone know about Brad Neff? Thanx for all past prayers and know you are all out there for him...Jason's Mom
Mornin" all...Jason just saw the Dr. He has a blood clot in the a vein that took over for his IVC when he was 16....to his good kidney. They believe his kidney got bruised...hmmm...probably in some crash I heard about. They did a CT scan at 3:30 this morning and decided there is no clot to the intestines...yeah! The pain is from the clot in the kidney. They are limited on thinning the blood too much to break the clot up due to his head injury...also due to that crash I heard about. He is weak and tired but we will get him through this. Thanx again for being there for him...Jason's Mom...or just me...Lori
Glad to hear the good news, thanks for the update!
Lori, if there's anything I can do for Jason, or you while your up in Rochester, please let me know. I'm only 45 min's south and run thru Rochester all the time. I would be happy to help in any way.
Jason B.
Like a roller coaster ride-sorryand hope all turns out well-john in nj
thanks for the update Lori, let us know how things progress!
keep ya head up J, you'll be back before ya know it!
Hope Jason makes a full recovery. He's in our thoughts and prayers. Please let us know how he's doing.
Looks like HPT is not a good place for bikes.....
