Did you see this item today?  http://sports.excite.com/news/06122006/v5370.html

You'd think a football player would understand that cars hit harder than linemen do, wouldn't you?

But yet if the 62 yr old woman in the car wouldnt had turned left in front of him none of this would had happened. Everyone is pointing out his lack of helmet (yes he SHOULD had been wearing one, but PA doesnt require helemts anymore since 03) but yet no one talks about the CAUSE of the crash which is the biggie when it regards motorcycle vs car collisions.

Well...she wasn't ticketed, according to the article, which means presumably the police determined that she wasn't guilty of failing to yield the right of way, which is what more or less happened.  Based on that, could it be that Roethlisberger was speeding??  With the narrow frontal area and only one headlight, judging approach speed of a bike can be difficult for anyone, old or not.  Bikes can be going so fast that a car driver may see it and figure they have plenty of time to make their turn, not realizing that the closure rate is two or three times greater than they thought. Article didn't say he was speeding, but it does make one wonder.

And in any case, cars do this kind of stuff quite a lot, and we as bikers have to be ready for it.  Even when we're right, if we crash, we're still wrong (during a getoff your body can't tell who was at fault...).
