Uhhh Dave....you got rid of the pictures.....right?
Now thats just wrong......
again...............
just wrong........ :-X
Seriously though, I`ve noticed from talking to people what they like for leathers has to do with two things. Cost and fit. First, determine your price range and see what types fall in the area of your $$.
Then maybe try to talk to people with a similiar build and see what they like. I`m 6`1 and 180 lbs and it drives me nuts cause no two suits fit the same!
Sorry this isn`t a simple brand specific answer! ???
RS-Taichi
a little pricey but, they crash well...... ;D
pvd
pajamas crash well in that baby get off you had this year paulie!!!! ;D
I've heard nothing but good things about Vansons, and they will be my next set. My Alpines crashed good, but apparently you can't fix holes around the outer plastic armor; right Alexa?
Yeah,
my little low side wasn't so bad, but my boss really, really crashed my back up suit, and that one came out better than the A suit.
Neither of us injured.
Rocket Speed Master!
shoot me an email I can get you a good price on one.

I fall, I tumble, I get run over...
I get up.
Repairable too.
I sold my leathers from 1991. I sold my leathers from the 1992/1993 season. I still have my leathers that I used from 1994 through 1998...then used a bit during 1999, 2001, and let Mike Reibe use them for a couple years. Still have my last two sets of leathers too.
I use mine alot too in racing and then the school programs and vintage racing that I do.
Vanson, 8years-3 suits-same skin......

That's right G! Tommy, tell him what he's won! :D
The Alpinestars SMX2 and any of the other suits with exo-skeleton type armor are almost impossible for me to repair in the arms and shoulder area. A-stars Torrence CA facility does these repairs, but at an astronomical price.
Anyone looking to buy new or used leathers for the coming season can feel free to call me @ 414.327.0967 or email me
here (alexa@spyderleatherworks.com) for any info you might need on brand, price or fit.

same here! 90+ mph front end tuck... need minor repair to the shoulder... thats it!
I was considering RS Taichi, Alpinestars, and Custom Vansons. Joe Rocket seems to have licensed Suzuki, Yamaha, and Kawasaki replica leathers for 2006. Very cool looking. I hear nothing but good things about RS Taichi and the same about Vansons. The vansons seem really thick and bulky. Does it affect your movability at all? I'm not too concerend about price or fit. I just wanna look pimp. ;D just kidding..
i have a set of customs from http://www.njkleathers.com/
Alexa said she liked them, when she had to do some repairs. they are reasonably priced, very good quality, and i got them FAST!!!(10 days from the time i ordered them to when the showed up at my door, in the middle of the racing season)

Are they custom in the sense that you gave them your measurements and they made an off the rack suit for you or did you design them yourself as well?

full customs. you talk to him on the phone and he directs you through the measurment process.
You can design your NJKs from the ground up. :D
The RS_taichi suits are the best we have ever used. Joe Rocket have been some of the junk...c'mon Dano get with it! For some good leathers at a price point we had a team member try the Moto GP kangaroo suit this year and he crash tested it a few times. He walked away fine and the suit weathered the season, but after four crashes it is definitely time for a new one. I think the safest suits you will buy will be the RS Taichi and the Vanson. Price really shouldn't be an option in my opinion. Compromise something else...but not your safety gear. If you can't afford to do it right, wait until you can.
Rob,
How long does it usually take to get a RS Taichi suit? I was told that they aren't readily available.
Brian
In most cases I should be able to get you one within a week.
Any of you folks looking for GREAT deals on any kind of gear that don't already have a source should try C & B Race Apparel in Tennessee. Talk to Leo.
Great guy, Great service, Great prices IMHO

I know everyone has their own opinion about leathers but here is my .02. ;)
I have worn Vanson, Spidi, Kushitani, RS Tiachi, and XES throughout my racing career. All are great leathers and hold up very well, but my suggestion is to check out the XES leathers through Phil at Moto-Heaven .com. For the money they are freakin awesome. You can get a custom fitted set designed how ever you want for $1500 or less. They are lightweight, comfortable, fully armored, removeable liner and hold hold excellant under crash testing!!
Just thought I would drop that in here!!!
Here is the link www. moto-heaven.com
Tell Phil Mark sent cha!!!
Vanson's bulky?
It's a heavy materia, yeah, buy you're wearing it. Never affected me before. I've done well in really hot weather too. Doesn't affect my movement on the bike.
They are heavy...so, when you buy a set, they will break in. Initially, they are a little different, like a really good pair of Red Wing Shoes. You can speed the process by showering and wearing leathers.
