Title: Scotty727 hams it up for the cameras...
Post by: spyderchick on June 06, 2005, 06:48:10 AM
Hi Scott, sorry to see the crash, but hey, you got on TV and a mention! You're a celebrity now! ;) Hope both you and the bike are ok.

I would have rather finished the race and not been on tv then crashed and got my few minutes of fame. I'm ok, but the bike needs a little work. And I need to find some stuffing for my wallet because that thing is hurting the most. Two crashes - two weekends in a row. Well I guess the bright side to all of this is that now I know I can qualify for an AMA event, I did it on my first attempt and I learned alot. How about it tho Alexa you can see the Spyder Leather patch clear as day, nice huh? I also want to say good job to the other local boys that made the show, Stumpy, Super Dave, Simon Kowalski, Shawn Conrad, Andy F. and Dan Dotty. - Oh and one last thing that I learned from all of this is, being a privateer trying to compete at this level can be very expensive, even if you don't drop your bike. I will be shipping you my leathers in a few days, I kind of lost my knee slider and ended up dragging my velcro on the ground and wore enough off so that I had to tape the slider on..      Later

Also Dan Ortega, he made the show and was running strong finishing 20th I believe.

Well, don't be so down. You have new found knowledge and an experience few get to have. Plus, you'll have video to show your grandkids. "See what grandpa used to do? You young whipper snappers have it too easy..."

No problem on getting the velcro fixed.

And yes, to a big thumbs up to all the locals who competed this weekend.   ;)

Yeah, you had good TV time.

I think I had some time in between commercials...winking at the camera with my helmet on in the pit lane...LOL!  Saw myself while I was eating at Parts Unlimited.

For me...

I believe that I need one, or more, new coils.  Still beat Schwantz....

How cool is it to be able to say that?

It would have been even cooler (is that a word ?) if he was beaten while he was still running on the track.  Crashing sucks.

It's like Paul beating Ed when he has a mechanical, it's just not the same.

 ;)

Dawn, when is the last time Paul raced?

Short answer: Too long!  ;D

Paul hasn't raced since last year.  Although he's talking about Autobahn (not likely) or Blackhawk in July.  After racing for the past four years, I think he needed a little break.  Plus, we've been doing a LOT of stuff around the house that seemed to get pushed to the side over the past few years.  If he has the bug to get on a bike and scare himself, he grabs the 450 and bombs around the MX track that he built.

Dawn    :)

Alexa:  I like your answer, but my pocket book says otherwise.    ;)

Actually, I only said it to be amusing.

Club racing and AMA Pro road racing is feeling pressure from track day attitudes.

When I started racing, many years ago, I only wanted to become an expert, we were called novices then, so I could race for Suzuki money and then race in AMA Pro races.  I wanted to race those races to compete,  not because I wanted to be on track with "others".

I would prefer to beat them.  I'm not there to "ride with them".  If I wanted to do that, I could go to Kevin's school for a whole lot less money.

I'll speak up for Scott...

I believe that he works hard to try to get faster everytime out.  He doesn't want to ride "with" those guys.  He wants to learn what he needs to do to beat them.  I don't believe that he was there for his entertainment.

Thanks Dave,  but what did I miss? I would really hope that nobody thought I was competing at Road America for the fun of it. Like Dave said, Every time I go out on the track I am trying to better myself as a racer. Most people don't know ~  but at one point and time I raced AMA motocross and supercross. I held a Pro license for two years, and I was very serious about making the most out of racing. But I had some problems, one was that I broke my C-7 vertebra in my neck while I was training in Florida for the winter. The other problem I had was that as I got older I beacame allergic to many things, including dirt, dust, sunlight, trees and grass, all of them are related to motocross. So I was forced to stop racing for about a three year peroid. Then my current tuner "Pat" talked me into buying an SV and giving roadracing a try. So here I am, devoting everything I have into racing and trying to make something out of it. And as we all know it is not easy, but I feel I have come a long way in a short time and I plan on going as far as I can with this sport. So dave is right, I am not out there to circulate the track with those riders or any riders, I am out there to compete to the best of my ability
and learn everything I can to help further my knowledge. This past weekend was a learning experience. And I did just that, I learned alot. So anyways, Dave thank you for your input ad I am glad that you can see how I really feel about roadracing. Depending on my funding situation, you guys may see me at Mid Ohio for the AMA race, but hopefully this time finishing.

Hey Scott,

I think you have improved a lot in the last year. you really seem to be making good progress. Hopefully you can make it.

Yes, I guess being allergic to dust may not be good for a motocrosser! :)

Scott, I understand your motivations.  Familiar ones at that.

I know you weren't there to "ride with" people...you wanted to figure out how to really beat them.

Scott, you had a great weekend going...we were so sorry to see you go down.  Next time, right?

I don't think anyone was at RA to "ride" with so-and-so.  You'd get weeded out pretty quick if you were.  Everyone is just your competition, no matter how far away--either way--they are.
